The Advocate Update

Celebrating life, nourishing the spirit, and inspiring a commitment to justice
THIS MONTH: CURIOSITY
The practice of moving from fear to open-heartedness.
Remember to look up at the stars
and not down at your feet.
Try to make sense of what you see
and wonder about what makes the universe exist.
Be curious.
And however difficult life may seem,
there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don’t just give up.
- Stephen Hawking
THIS SUNDAY

It's Pittsburgh Marathon Sunday!

Getting around will be tricky this Sunday, but we'll be here as always to worship. Check out this helpful map to plan your trip, and be sure to leave plenty of time to travel.

SHARE THE PLATE PARTNER
May & June

Jeff Rec Center

Jefferson Recreation Center, affectionately known as "Jeff Rec" is the Northside's Community Recreation Center, providing year-round indoor and outdoor sporting activities, educational programming, crafting and leisure time. Our May & June share the plate offering will go toward providing summer field trip opportunities for neighborhood youth, as well as provide snacks to keep bellies happy during the summer months.
CHILDREN'S RELIGIOUS ED UPDATE
In RE, the theme Wholeness led us to considering our circles of community and how circles can be left open to new friends and community members. Holly Hickling shared with us her experiences working at a refugee settlement in Africa. Ana Hoffman showed the kids EarthTime, a collection of online map stories from CMU's CREATE Lab, that includes visualizations of refugees moving across the globe year by year.
