Trustees
We held our AGM on the 11th March 2019 where we successfully appointed 10 Trustees. We have now added the BPV Annual Report and Accounts to our website.
Issues Log
We are now holding an Issues log where information is taken from our various workshops, support groups and emails around current Issues. We now have scheduled meetings in the diary to meet with Senior Leads within the Local Authority and will be reporting these Issues to them. Our aim will be to start to receive feedback on how some of the issues can be resolved. Any information we can share with you will be added to our e-bulletin.
Parent Representatives/Volunteering
We have many projects, workshops, and co-production meetings all coming up which we would like BPV to be involved. However we need more Parent Representative/Volunteers to help us achieve this. Over the next few months we are hoping to build on our pool of Parent Representatives/Volunteers. We are planning a training session in September. Look out for our Expression of Interest application which will be sent out soon. Please complete and return if you think you may be interested in joining us to get involved in shaping services and support with in SEND.

Supporting Disabled People to Work Report
A new National Audit Office report finds the DWP has no real strategy for helping disabled people into work. Disability Rights UK says “The narrative needs to change from focusing on reducing the benefits bill and punishment through sanctions to supporting disabled people to use our skills to reach our full potential and take our place as equal citizens in society.” More here
Statement Calling for Removal of Benefit Sanctions
The British Psychological Society has joined eight other leading mental health organisations in calling for the removal of benefit sanctions for people with mental health difficulties. Disability Rights UK says “We want a system that genuinely supports the many disabled people who want to work to keep their job when they become disabled - and, for those out of work, to get into work, or set up their own business, with the tailored and flexible support they need to do so.” More here
Sports Sector 'Needs to do more'
New research, from our Get Yourself Active Project shows that the sports sector could play a key role in getting disabled more active – but that it needs to improve awareness and access to facilities and services. More here
Disability Regional Stakeholder Network
Deadline Extended. The Office for Disability Issues is seeking people to join the new Regional Stakeholder Network in 9 regional groups across England. The Regional Stakeholder Network will bring the views of disabled people, local disability organisations, disabled people led organisations, and organisations that represent disabled people closer to government. Support for Behaviour that Challenges Workshop

Bromley is offering a training course delivered by Personal Awareness Consultancy & Training (PACT), accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD), which will assist parents/carers in supporting their children/young people to manage behaviours that challenge. The course will cover both theory and practical ways to manage and prevent behaviours that challenge, including disengagement techniques, Positive Behaviour Support planning and trigger words to avoid. Ruxley Manor in Sidcup now has a Mobiloo which makes visits accessible to the quarter of a million disabled people who would otherwise be stuck at home simply because of a lack of adequate toilet and changing facilities. Quiet Shopping Hours at Bluewater
Bluewater is to offer permanent weekly "quiet hours" for autistic shoppers from this year. The services are being introduced after the shopping centre marks World Autism Awareness Week. The quiet hours will cut the amount of music and dim the lighting in Bluewater's central areas. More here

Learning Disability Health Survey
Doctors in Bromley are encouraging people with learning disabilities to make sure they have their annual health check with their GP. The check helps to keep people well and pick up any problems at an early stage. In Bromley only half of those entitled to the check are actually having one. To help NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group understand why this is and how they can get more people to have their annual check, please complete their survey here
Children and Young People's Mental Health Workforce Strategy for London

Government asking for help from people with autism and their families to transform support
The government is asking autistic people, their families and those caring for them to give their views on how care and support in England can be improved. This will contribute to a cross-government review of the national autism strategy which is due to be refreshed and launched later this year. Read more and have your say.
Is your child moving from primary to secondary school this year? Volunteers are needed for an academic research study
The Roehampton Institute are researching factors that help children with neurodevelopmental disorders during the transition from primary school to secondary school. There are seven families already involved in the study that have children with Downs Syndrome moving schools and ten more are needed with either ASD, Downs Syndrome or Williams Syndrome. Children who are in either mainstream or in special educational schools will be considered, please see attached FLYER for further information.
Learning Disability and Autism Training
The government wants to know how we can make sure that health and social care staff have the right training to understand the needs of people with a learning disability and autistic people, and make reasonable adjustments to support them. The consultation considers issues around the training and development staff need to better support people with a learning disability or autistic people.
