INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITY ORGAN CONCERT SERIES 2019

With a French Accent

Presented by the Friends of the Christchurch Town Hall Organ Trust
MAURICE CLERC (Dijon Cathedral, France)
Come and experience the city's iconic Rieger pipe organ in Christchurch Town Hall as part of the International Celebrity Organ Concert Series 2019.
We are excited to welcome organist Maurice Clerc from France, who will present the next concert on Sunday, 9 June, from 3pm – 4:30pm.
The celebrated titular organist of Dijon Cathedral in France for over 40 years, and a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, Maurice Clerc is an organist in the grand French tradition. Born in Lyon in 1946, Monsieur Clerc has travelled to four continents over his long and distinguished career, including 28 tours to North America and Canada, and given over 1300 concerts.
Appropriately, he will play a programme of French music including César Franck's famous Chorale No. 3 in A minor, works by Mouret, Louis Vierne and Gabriel Fauré.
His programme will end with an improvisation on a theme given to him only just before he plays. Impromptu creation of music is a tour de force for which all the great French organists are renowned.
