President's Message

Sisters of the Cloth,

It's raining AGAIN! My friend Lynn would say it was another special day. Time to huddle and sew, sew, sew. Our next meeting will be fun with Laura leading us through barn blocks. Thanks for taking the lead Laura. (Anyone considering the program position, remember that you will have an excellent assistant in Laura).

Just take it one stitch at a time.

Port Perry Patchers UFO Challenge 2018-19

Greetings fellow quilters!  As the First Annual UFO Project draws to a close, the only thing left to do is celebrate!  Prizes galore!  Our May UFO submissions are the final projects to be recorded.  However, next year Challenge promises to be even bigger and better!

With the help of the willing and able Executive, I have made some tweaks to our existing challenge guidelines. You are encouraged to pick up a registration form at our potluck dinner in June. This is only a suggestion to help with your selection of projects if you decide to participate in next year's challenge.  The Registration, Kick Off and first number will be chosen at our September Guild meeting. Once again, the maximum number of projects is six but you may decide to only register 3, 4 or 5. The months that have been chosen for the challenge are :  October, November, December (Your Choice of Project Number!), January, February, March. This is due to our upcoming quilt show.  Wouldn't it be great to have some of these UFOs included in the quilt registrations? Maybe a prize should be given for the oldest but now finished UFO!
Use your summer to audition your projects.  Bring them front and centre, in plain view, and decide.  Perhaps you will plan to take some baby steps towards completion before the summer ends.  Then the task may be less daunting?  For you wonderful full bed quilters :  try dividing your huge project into three stages, using numbers 1. Queen quilt , 2. Queen quilt, 3. Queen quilt.  Would this work for you?
There will be less tickets given out per month but I am adding a single different ticket each month for a mini prize draw.  The main prizes, once again, will be gift certificates from our local quilt shops.

Barn Blocks with Laura Palmer

May Program

Barn Quilt Trails are found all over the countryside. As you drive along these trails you will find beautifully painted Quilting Blocks hung on the sides of barns. Check out www.barnquilttrails.ca to discover some of the trails found in Ontario.
Laura will be leading us in painting your own Barn Quilt Block for our May meeting. You will need to bring an 18” ruler and a pencil. The guild will be supplying the rest! You can choose to follow along with Laura or use your favourite block design.
After our meeting, you will need to seal your block with urethane if you want to hang your block outside.
