 Sumter County Rates High On EMSI 2018 Talent Attraction Scorecard

Economic Modeling Services, Inc. (EMSI) has released it's 2018 Talent Attraction Scorecard. Sumter County rated second and third among Florida counties for workforce growth in both Generation Z and Millennial populations respectively.  Sumter was also ranked highly for educational attainment.  Each year, EMSI analyzes all U.S. counties to see which ones attract talent the best. Rankings are based on how well counties draw new residents, grow jobs and skilled workers, and increase educational attainment.

Florida Ranked First in the Nation for Higher Education

Florida once again is rated first in the nation for higher education, according to U.S. News and World Report rankings. This is the third consecutive year Florida has landed at the top of the rankings. The state had the second-best tuition and fees, two year program graduation rates and had three universities rated in the top 100 by U.S. News and World Report.

What Happens When the Robots Lose Power?

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is looking at updating the safety rule known as lockout/tagout.  The rule which regulates the control of energy while machines and equipment are being serviced or repaired is being evaluated to address robotic systems that need a continuous supply of power and are becoming commonplace in industrial settings.

Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. located in Bushnell, is the largest producer and marketer of shell eggs in the United States. In fiscal 2018, they sold approximately 1,037.7 million dozen shell eggs, which is approximately 20% of domestic shell egg consumption. Their flock of approximately 36.3 million layers and 9.6 million pullets and breeders is the largest in the U.S. Layers are mature female chickens, pullets are female chickens usually under 18 weeks of age, and breeders are male and female chickens used to produce fertile eggs to be hatched for egg production flocks. In addition to the local egg production facility, Cal-Maine also has a separate feed mill operation in Bushnell to feed for their poultry.
