Sunday Service | May 5, 2019
Sunday’s subject will be forgiveness — and how Jesus thinks we should and may be infinitely forgiving. “Seven times seven.”
Joe Biden’s apology will join decarceration and adultery as topics. How do we get good at forgiveness?
Following service the first meeting of the “Discovery” group will happen at 1 p.m. It is especially for newcomers to Judson, and acts as an orientation to deeper participation.
The Congregational Meeting is May 19th. Mark your calendars now.

Sauvage/Wild
In a surprisingly quiet scene part way through Camille Vidal-Naquet’s visceral and riveting debut feature Sauvage/Wild, 22-year-old sex worker Leo (Félix Maritaud) ends up in bed with an elderly client. After fumbling together for a few moments, the client decides he’d simply like to be held, and as the two lie together, the client softly says, “At night, sometimes I wake, and I don’t know where I am.”

Lifehacker: Be a Better Ally by Understanding What Ramadan Is All About
The Islamic holy month of Ramadan begins on May 6 this year. As an American-Muslim, I find that many of my non-Muslim friends and colleagues still don’t know much about it.
In the video above, I sit down with Aniqa Nawabi, Executive Director of the Muslim Community Network, to discuss the basics of Ramadan and its significance to Muslims around the world.

Judson Discovery
Sunday, May 5th | Garden Room
1PM
Dear Spring 2019 Judson Discovery cohort:
We have a great group assembled and we're eager to see you all this weekend.
As you all know, the next incarnation of our new-ish, focused, three-session program for welcoming new members, called "Judson Discovery," will kick off THIS Sunday, May 5th, after our worship service, from 1pm to 2:30pm, in the Garden Room (ring bell and enter at 239 Thompson Street).
This Sunday's session will start with an exploration of the past. We'll be talking about Judson's history and your own histories and relationships with spirituality, justice-seeking, and creativity.
Vegan-friendly food from Mamoun's will be provided.
If that doesn't appeal to you, please feel free to bring something you'd like to enjoy during the session.
This three-session series works as a no-pressure, collaborative way for any membership-curious Judson congregants to learn more about Judson and one another, for us to learn more about all of you, and for us to discover how we can more actively and intentionally invite each of you into deeper congregational participation and spiritual nurture.
The sessions build upon one another, looking at history, current programming, and future hopes, so participation at all three sessions is desired.
Our spring set of Judson Discovery sessions will breakdown as follows:
Sunday, May 5th, 1pm to 2:30pm
Sunday, May 12th, 1pm to 2:30pm
Wednesday, May 15th, 6:30pm to 8pm (at JAW: Judson Arts Wednesdays)
Those who do decide to join will be invited to do so at the Sunday, May 19th service.
We look forward to experimenting with you!
Let us know if you have any lingering questions.
Excitedly,
Micah, Donna, Roy, & The Membership Committee

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens. This story is an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder.
