Peru Mission Trip
Each time our group arrives in Collique, Peru, just outside Lima, it feels like I have gone back home. This April’s trip was no different. With people from Houston; Waco; Rome, Georgia; and North Carolina, we came together to use our skills and expertise to continue the work that has been going on since 2003.

It is true that we came to attend to the medical needs of the community with a triage area and doctors and nurses. It is true that we came to build four homes for those who needed them most. It is true that we came to share with the children of the area. It is also true that we came to continue to build the relationships that have been built over years of time spent with our Peruvian family.

One of my jobs for this trip was to document it with photos and videos. I spent my time going up and down “the hill” to witness the progress on each home, the movement of people through the clinic from intake to pharmacy, and rotating through the morning with the kids. You’ll see some photos from each of these areas below.

We have been going to Lima since 2005, and each year is a little different. This year was no exception. During this year’s spring break Baylor sent a group of nursing students and pre-med students who helped prepare for our April medical clinic. Their preparation helped our medical team jump right into their work with little delay on Monday morning. What a gift! Operacion San Andres (OSA) is working hard to make other similar connections between the people of Collique and Baylor students.

As we look to what’s next for OSA, we continue to pray for the right people to make their way to Collique. We continue to look for others who want to be a part of this ministry. I think this is a place where people from Calvary with all sorts of skills and expertise can contribute. Speaking Spanish certainly helps but it is not critical for you to be able to go. Trust me...I have been going since 2005, and I know just enough Spanish to get myself in trouble. We hire translators in Lima who spend their week with us.

So...if you like to work with children, or if you have any kind of medical/dental background, or if you can pull the trigger of an impact drill, or if you have any kind of crafty skills, or if you can carry a tune in a bucket, or if you enjoy taking photographs, or if you are an accountant, or if you love working with details of projects, or whatever it is you do...we need you. We are looking now to decide when our next trip to
Lima will be. Keep your eyes and ears open for information. We would love for you to be on the plane next to us!

Faith Health Waco Update
For the month of May, Faith Health Waco is focusing our attention on Mental Health. Not all disabilities are visible to the eye. Among those that are often non-apparent are mental health conditions. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five American adults experiences a mental health condition each year. A healthy lifestyle can help to prevent the onset or worsening of mental health conditions as well as chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.  It can also help people recover from these conditions. Click on this link to read useful information about this topic.

Would you like to get involved in meeting health needs in our church and community? Contact David and Elaine Norris (sewgal9234@gmail.com) to find out how you can get involved.

Associate Pastor Search Update
Friends, the Associate Pastor Search Committee has worked steadily for the past three months to find just the right person to help lead our family of faith in the areas of mission, spiritual formation, and administration.  We interviewed some of our top candidates via online conference calls this week and will continue the discernment process until we bring our committee’s recommendations before the church. Please keep the team in your prayers as we press forward in this important task.

Serving in Summer Missions?
This summer, people from Calvary will be serving on mission all around the world! If you will be serving on a mission trip, at a summer camp, or in a summer ministry internship, we would love to be praying for you! Please e-mail Mallory Herridge (mhherridge@gmail.com) and let her know where and when you will be serving so that Calvary can support you in prayer and follow along with your journey.

West Avenue - Saturday Tutoring Sessions
This Saturday (May 11) is the final Saturday session!  Principal Weeks has asked if we can support 3rd-5th grade students at West Avenue who are working hard to pass the STAAR test this spring. He has set up Saturday tutoring sessions from 9:00-10:45 AM. Each tutor will be assigned to 2-3 students to work in a group. The school can provide us with all the materials we need for tutoring, so no special knowledge is needed. There is only one opportunity left to help, this Saturday, May 11! Many of these students are just short of passing by one or two questions, so some help in a small setting should make a big difference for them! Please contact Jennifer Low know if you would like to help (jlow@hot.rr.com).

Contributing Financially to Calvary
Each week, we present our offerings as an act of worship. However, many of us pay for the majority of our expenses online or through an automatic-withdraw from our bank accounts, and each month when we pay our expenses, we can present an offering to God in these ways too. You can give to Calvary online at http://cbcwaco.net/give-to-calvary, but please note that 1-2% of your gift will go toward transaction fees. If you would like to set up an automatic withdrawal from your bank account, which has no transaction fees, please contact Phil Sitton at psitton@cbcwaco.net
Let's be in prayer for one another. Click HERE for the prayer list.
