Webinar Series Beginning May 2: The Future of Light-Duty Vehicle Technologies and Infrastructure

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee is collecting information for its study on the cost and effectiveness of fuel efficiency technologies for light duty vehicles in the 2025-2035 time period. As part of the information gathering, we will host webinar series to hear from a variety of public and private sector experts in particular technology topics. Learn more about the study at nas.edu/fueleconomy and register for a webinar on one or more of the topics listed below.

Modernizing the U.S. Electric System: Committee Meeting #2

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is conducting a study to advise the nation on strategies for modernizing the U.S. electricity system. The committee of experts will focus on new technologies, operating techniques, grid architectures, and business models for modernizing the grid given a range of potential future scenarios in both the medium and long term.

The second committee meeting will feature an open session on May 13, 2019 from 12:30pm-5pm ET where the committee will hear briefings on select topics including coordination between electric and natural gas sectors as well as potential developments in power electronics.

Save the Date: Workshop on the Deployment of Deep Decarbonization Technologies on July 22-23


What technologies do we need to reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 80% in 2050? The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine invite you to attend a workshop exploring the challenges and opportunities for deploying and scaling up technologies involved in U.S. deep decarbonization on July 22-23, 2019 in Washington, DC. Speakers will explore issues for deep decarbonization of the U.S. economy through a focus on several key sectors such as electricity, transportation, food production, and heavy industry. The role of negative emissions technologies also will be considered. The discussions will include technology development, deployment, and scale-up; policy drivers, financing, and economics; and societal and political implications. 

This workshop marks the launch of a new Deep Decarbonization Initiative at the National Academies. For more information about the workshop, including information on planning committee members, please visit our website.
