Two BYIs Newly Inducted as Members of the National Academy of Sciences
Congratulations to 1998 Beckman Young Investigator Yang Dan (UC Berkeley) and 1993 Beckman Young Investigator Arlene Sharpe (Harvard Medical School), both newly inducted members of the National Academy of Sciences. Per NAS, Dan's research is focused on cortical processing and plasticity, including perception, memory, cognition and sleep; Sharpe's on immunology, defining the functions of B7-1, B7-2, CTLA-4, and PD-1, and its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2. BYI Yevgenia Kozorovitskiy Receives 2019 NSF Award
Congratulations to 2015 Beckman Young Investigator Yevgenia Kozorovitskiy (Northwestern University), the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Kozorovitskiy is an Assistant Professor of Neurobiology at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on understanding the function of neuromodulation and plasticity in the brain.
BSP Monika Grabowska Recognized with 2019 Student of the Year Award
Congratulations to 2018 Beckman Scholar Monika Grabowska (University of Virginia), the recipient of UVA Engineering's 2019 Outstanding SEAS Student of the Year Award. Grabowska's research focuses on developing computational models of cardiotoxicity due to cancer drugs.
Dr. Beckman's Contributions to Space Exploration Highlighted as part of Moon Landing Anniversary Exhibit
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is opening a special exhibit running April 29, 2019 through January 12, 2020. The exhibit includes a 360-degree virtual reality moon experience, rocks recovered from the lunar surface, a giant recreation of the Apollo mission command module, a display of Beckman images and artifacts related to the astronauts' life support systems, and an original copy of President Nixon's prepared "moon disaster" speech.
