Happy Spring!  So much has happened since the Black History Month edition of our newsletter in which we highlighted the pioneers of the B-School.

We have a jam-packed newsletter this month. Be sure to scroll all the way through or view in browser so that you don't miss anything.

In this month’s issue, we're recapping Q1 and Q2 events, sharing details about our much anticipated International Alumni Day celebration, highlighting the achievements of B-School students, shining a spotlight on the impressive accomplishments of CAU B-School alumni, and much more!

SBANA NEWS 

International Alumni Day- June 8
We are celebrating CAUAA International Alumni Day as a family on Saturday, June 8th from 12-4pm at the Alumni House and President's Lot. Join us for an afternoon of fun, games, music, and food! 

We are expecting it to be a typical June day...hot!! With that in mind, we've made the following arrangements: 
  • We will have a large tent with fans to shield you from the Georgia sun.
  • Transportation from the parking deck to the event will be available for those who require assistance.
  • The Student Center will serve as a cooling center. Restrooms and cold water will be available, free of charge.

2019 Annual Meeting
Thank you to those who joined us in person and virtually for this year’s Annual Meeting. We previewed our Annual Report and announced the 2019 election results. Financial members will receive access to the full annual report and year-end financials by June 30.
Spring 2019 Annual Scholarship Recipients
Last August we introduced our Annual Scholarship program that provides alumni and friends of the B-School with an opportunity to create a legacy by establishing a multi-year scholarship.

Thank you to alumna Joy Tellis-Cooper (CAU '94), alumna Erika Hill (CAU '02, Valedictorian), and Ms. Jacqueline Watts and her daughter Alumna Stephanye Watts (CAU '07) for their 10-year pledge that supports CAU School of Business Students!

2019 ELECTION RESULTS 

Congratulations to the winners of our 2019 Election! Newly elected officers will begin their term on July 1, 2019. 
 
Nichelle Joyner, CAU '07
Vice President 

As VP, Nichelle will serve as Chief Program Officer overseeing SBANA's programming that impacts B-School alumni and students. She currently serves as SBANA's Historian and will transition into her new role on July 1.
Antwon Butler, CAU '06
Treasurer

As Treasurer, Antwon will serve as Chief Financial Officer and provide fiscal management for the organization. He will also serve as Co-Chair of the Budget Committee. 
Eboni McCory, CAU '06
Second Vice President

As Second Vice President, Eboni will manage the organization's committees assisting them in achieving set goals.
JaNea Buckingham-Dix, CAU '07
Corresponding Secretary

As Corresponding Secretary, JaNea will serve as our Marketing & Communications Manager.
Melisa D. Archie, CAU '06
Financial Secretary
As Financial Secretary, Melisa will serve as our Accounting Clerk. She will also serve as co-chair of the Budget Committee.

B-SCHOOL NEWS  

New Working Professionals MBA Program 
Thinking about earning an MBA to advance your career? The Clark Atlanta University School of Business of Administration is launching the Working Professionals MBA Program (WPMBA) beginning this fall.
 
The WPMBA is designed for work professionals to obtain an MBA with the least amount of interruption in their careers. The program consists of a 36-hour curriculum delivered in a modular format that is completed in 18 months. Classes are taught online and in-class. GMAT waivers are available to qualified candidates.

New Partnership with the National Black MBA Association
Chadrick Knight (CAU MBA '20) is the first recipient of the Ford Motor Company Scholarship, given in partnership with the CAU School of Business and the National Black MBA Association. 

Each year, a full-time MBA student who is a member of the National Black MBA Association will be awarded a $10,000 Scholarship.  CAU undergraduate students will also participate in the annual case competition at the National Black MBA Conference. Read more about the partnership here.

MBA Alumnus Makes $500k Gift 
Alumnus Maurice D. Slaughter (AU MBA '84) announced his gift of $500,000 to the B-School during his acceptance speech at this year's Spirit of Greatness Gala!  See photos from the event below.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 

Congratulations to the Class of 2019! 
Many were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Business Honor Society, and are headed to top MBA programs in the country or have accepted job offers at companies such as City Year, Oracle, Texas Instruments, and Georgia Pacific, just to name a few! 

We wish them happiness and success as they go out into the world and welcome them into the CAU B-School alumni family.

19 Year Old B-School Graduate
What were you doing at 19? Bre’Onna Baylis (CAU ‘19), received her Bachelors, founded a successful home baking business, and somehow found time for two internships, all before turning 20!

2019 Mister CAU
It comes as no surprise that the first ever Mister CAU is a B-School student!  TeJordan J.L Carter has a dual concentration in Finance and Financial Planning and is also an Alpha Man. He hails from Little Rock, Arkansas byway of Fort Worth, Texas.

B-SCHOOL ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT 

Congratulations to CAU B-School Alumnus Marshall J. Taggart, Jr., C.W. (CAU '92) on his appointment as Executive Director of the Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM)! Alumnus Taggart has over two decades of aviation experience. He previously served as deputy executive director of the DeKalb Peachtree Airport overseeing the administration of over $42 million in construction and airfield projects. Read the full press release.
Congratulations to MBA Alumnus, D. Edward Greene, RED Mortgage Capital, has hired alumnus Greene as Chief Underwriter for Affordable Housing. He will be responsible for overseeing all Affordable credit and loan underwriting in addition to identifying new business opportunities to further grow RED’s affordable lending activities nationwide. Congratulations to Alumna Erica Barrett (CAU '04) on writing her first cookbook, Shuga & Seoul!  The cookbook is a collection of Sweet and Soulful recipes from the depths of the South and is filled with Erica's breakfast favorites, entrees, and desserts! 
 
Did you catch NBA Official #6 during the 2019 NBA regular-season and playoffs? Alumnus Tony Brown (CAU '89) has officiated almost 1,000 regular-season games during his 16-year career as an Official. Learn more about Alumnus Brown here.

IN MEMORIAM 

The CAU B-School family lost two beloved members this month, alumnus Dr. Hubert D. Glover and longtime Marketing faculty member, Professor Elania Hudson.

Dr. Hubert Darnell Glover, AU MBA '80
April 16, 1957 - May 6, 2019

Alumnus Glover dedicated his life to expanding access to education, mentoring youth, and empowering small minority businesses.

He joyfully served as an accounting professor at Clemson University and Georgia State University, was Chair of Accounting at Howard University, and most recently, a graduate professor at Drexel University.

Alumnus Glover is survived by his beloved wife, Alumna Dr. Roni M. Glover (CAU MSW), who he met while at CAU. Read his full obituary
Professor Elania J. Hudson, CAU MBA
March 17, 1963- May 16, 2019

She was a devoted life-long learner and a passionate educator at Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College, where she served as a professor of marketing. She loved teaching. She loved helping undergraduate and graduate students succeed.

Professor Hudson earned her MBA in Accounting from Clark Atlanta University.  Read her full obituary
