State Interagency Coordinating Council Parent Representatives Needed

TEIS is in search of parents of children who are currently receiving services from TEIS or have received services in the last five years who are interested in applying as candidates for appointment to TEIS’ State Interagency Coordinating Council (SICC). Service on the SICC is an opportunity to be an advocate and a voice for the early intervention system and to become involved at a state level in decisions that impact the children and families served by TEIS. The commitment involves attendance at quarterly meetings held in the Nashville area. Travel expenses are reimbursable. Interested candidates should contact Amy Jenkins at (615) 707-0082 or at Amy.Jenkins@tn.gov.

Annual Pitt Hopkins Syndrome Awareness Day Declared in Tennessee

Governor Haslam signed a document declaring Sept. 18, 2018 the First Annual Pitt Hopkins Syndrome Awareness Day in Tennessee. This occurred thanks to the efforts of Kim and Jason Sanders, parents of Madelyn Sanders.

The TEIS upper cumberland point of entry office began working with Madelyn in the summer of 2017 initially due to motor delays. TEIS service coordinator Steven Scarlett, and early interventionist Leanne Rice, with Bridges, were assigned to Madelyn’s case. Madelyn initially began physical therapy due to the motor delays and shortly after also began occupational and speech therapy for feeding concerns. After visiting several doctors and going through various tests Madelyn was diagnosed with Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome in spring 2018. Click here to read more about Madelyn’s story.

Updated Reports Available

The 2017-18 rank order data is now available on the TEIS website. This report provides the population in each county with individualized family service plans (IFSPs) based on TEIS’ Dec. 1 child count compared to national data. There are two reports, one for ages birth to one and one for ages birth to three.

In addition to the rank order data, the 2017-18 Annual Performance Report (APR) and the State Systemic Improvement Plan Phase III, Year 3 Report have also been posted to the reports and data section of the TEIS website.

Welcome Aboard

Welcome aboard to Michelle Dale, service coordinator for the southeast TEIS office.
