A Note From Our Founder
Jill Nichols-Hicks
Around our first year of gathering together for connections, fun, education, creating and deepening new friendships, like so many times, a new face joined us for our Girl's Night Out. That new face was Kerri Wood, now a Charter Member. When she told Cecilia and I that she leads tours to Italy, well we lit up like a Roman candle! Often Cecilia and I would catch the wave of a "must do" for our group and this time it was to plan a trip to Italy with our I.W sisters. We finally did so launching our first Illuminating Women Italian trip in April of 2018. My goal was to not be the one organizing and implementing this adventure, rather have the members who are the experts and specialize in travel to lead us. The experience was undeniably one of the richest. We learned the value of collaboration away from our safety nets; diving deep in the evening conversations recounting the day's lessons which spilled over into our own sometimes messy lives. Women who didn't know each other by the end had new sisters to savor this special moment and time; changed by living together while existing with another culture. Women who didn't know each other had new sisters by the end to savor this special moment and time; changed by living together while existing with another culture. I knew then, we need to make certain we offer at least one trip a year so that we can not only grow personally but to also gain a fuller life.
Thanks to charter member Pascale LeJeune of Pascale Travel, she next organized our 2019 self-care trip to Costa Rica, again meeting all our dreamy goals. We now just launched our next trip for 2020 to Peru to be lead by I.W. member Matilde Melendez who will give us a front seat cultural experience of her country getting us truly in the back door. Here is what we know, when women invest in themselves, surrounding their lives with powerful uplifting people, and take time to enhance their knowledge through travels, we get enlightened and magic happens. Are you ready to explore another culture with a small group of fabulous women? Do you want to have an anthropological experience that will widen your horizons helping you to see new things and to be less ethnocentric? Then now is the time, so for you, we created a gift certificate that you can give out in order to receive the gift that will keep on giving new vision.
Thanks,
Jill

What do you know about cannabis? Has anyone in your life found relief from the therapeutic benefits but are worried about legal or social ramifications? There is a lot of "chatter" going on regarding cannabis from scientific research, benefits, and legalities. We are bringing in an expert for this GNO to shed light, science, and much more regarding the "truths" and "whys" of cannabis. Be sure to register early, let others know about this event, fill the car with your girlfriends, and join us for an informational and educational evening that can illuminate you and those you care about.

Alison Draisin PsyD, LMHC
Speaker - GNO May 17th
Cannabis 101
Alison Draisin PsyD, LMHC is the founder and CEO of Ettalew’s Edibles (est. 2009). Prior to running a successful cannabis-infused company, Alison attained a Master’s Degree in Art Psychotherapy and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. She has worked in the mental health field for twenty-five years and maintains a private practice for children, adolescents, and families in the Seattle area. In September 2018, she joined the Advanced Integrative Medical Science (AIMS) Institute to provide psychology services and research.
Alison’s entrepreneurship built Ettalew’s from the ground up on a foundation of helping fellow patients in Washington State. Her dedication to quality, consistency, and labeling of products helped expand the company statewide. Ettalew’s Medibles (now Edibles) received recognition at the High Times Cannabis Cup Seattle in 2012 and 2013, as well as being named one of the Best Edible Companies of 2013 by High Times Magazine. This recognition led to an invitation to judge nonsolvent hash for High Times Cannabis Cups around the world!
As an active member of the Washington State cannabis community, she speaks publicly on cannabis education locally and nationally. She began her public activism with the Cannabis Defense Coalition in 2008. As the Co-Chair for the Safe Access Committee, she recognized the need for a tool by which to guide stakeholders in the cannabis community. The Washington State Medical Cannabis Legal Guide was born from this passion to educate and set the framework for a new cannabis environment. This Legal guide has been an invaluable tool used by the legislature, out of state stakeholders, and the WA State Liquor/Cannabis Board to establish protocols for the new cannabis industry.
Alison is currently the President of the Board of Directors for the Center for Cannabis and Social Policy (CASP). She is the Judges Coordinator for the CASP Terpestival, which is a yearly educational festival geared toward terpene education.
Alison has teamed up with her partner to develop an in-home cannabis education platform called Ettalew’s Lifestyle. The premise is to educate consumers on how to choose their cannabis and ancillary products with thoughtful consideration, in the privacy of their homes.
As education is a passion of Alison’s, she has combined her psychology and cannabis passion and is currently writing a book. The work in progress is a guide to support parents in communicating with their children and adolescents about cannabis as medicine and recreation product.
As an original member of Women of Weed, Alison seeks to empower women in the cannabis industry/community. She is currently an educator for the Tokeatvity Connect program which seeks to support and connect women and cannabis.
Grab your gal pals, load up the car and come and enjoy great conversation with material to enhance your personal and professional life.
