Learnt that the new Ilkeston Station was used 252,000 times this year. The station was built thanks to the New Stations Fund that we suggested and lobbied for.

With your help, we’ve done all this!

Hello Supporter

We've been looking back on some of the things we achieved last year, from busy new rail stations to millions of pounds in Government funding for pothole repairs and electric cargo bikes. You can see a few highlights below, and more on our website. As a small charity, we really couldn’t have made any of this progress without our supporters: people like you who make donations to our work and add your voices to the call for sustainable transport for all. Thank you very much for all that you do.

Secured £2 million in Government support for electric cargo bikes
Persuaded the Government to allocate £420 million to local authorities in 2018-19 for potholes and road maintenance
Helped win planning permission for new rail freight sidings, which will mean 728 fewer lorries per day on Southampton's roads
Celebrated the 10th anniversary of the older person's bus pass

Rail Review: we're making passengers' voices heard

The Government is in the middle of a sweeping review of the railways. We want to make sure that it listens to the most important voices of all: those of passengers. So we surveyed thousands of people to help us respond to the Rail Review – if you were among them, many thanks for sharing your views. You can now read our response on our website.

We wanted to get a clearer picture of passengers' concerns about the railways. Unsurprisingly, ticket prices were the biggest concern, but other views came through strongly too.

"I always have to stand on my journey due to there being not enough carriages. I leave for work an hour earlier than necessary to ensure I get there for my starting time" - Sue, Crewe
"Electrification is being abandoned and routes that were closed in the Beeching era have not been re-opened" - Carol, Pembrokeshire

But even more than this, we wanted to make sure that the Review stepped back and looked at what the railways are for. Rather than focusing narrowly on operational issues, we want it to think about how the railway can improve the environment, communities and the economy. Among the people we surveyed there was a strong view that the main aim of the railway is to provide an alternative to car travel.

"To make our roads, villages, towns and cities less congested and nicer places to live, work and play"- Theresa, Bournemouth
"To move people and goods efficiently and to reduce our carbon footprint" - John, Cambridge
"To promote equality and enable all citizens to get around the country for leisure, work and business at an affordable price" - Andrew, London

The Review will publish its findings in the autumn: we hope it will listen to us and seize this chance to make real change happen.

Darren
