Dear Families and School Community,
May has shaped up to be a very impressive month here at Adaire. There are so many reasons for kids to come to school and so many opportunities for families and community members to support the school by volunteering. Field trips, 95 Club, Field Day, Annual Concert, Career Day & Multicultural Day are some of the events we have coming up in May. The details about these opportunities can be found under the Volunteer section here in the eNews.
Parents often ask me how they can help the school. I always say volunteer! To quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
We need you. One of the biggest reasons that Adaire is on a path to greatness is because of our engaged community. I sincerely thank everyone who has volunteered already this year, and I encourage you to lean in, if you are able, to the loads of opportunities left to help out during the final 5 weeks of school!
With Gratitude,
Principal Anna Jenkins

Ms. Geller Fulfills Childhood Dream by Teaching.
|
|
Middle school math teacher Ms. Geller says she always knew teaching was “in her blood.” After all, her father was a teacher and a principal. Her maternal grandmother was also a teacher. And Ms. Geller’s favorite game to play as a child? Teacher, of course. “I always loved children and wanted a profession that involved some interaction with them,” Ms. Geller says. “You could say going into teaching was meant to be.”
A native of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia, Ms. Geller later went on to attend American University in Washington, D.C. She is in her 14th year as a teacher at Adaire---a school at which she loves working because of the shared spirit between staff, students and families. “My favorite thing is the sense of community, the real closeness between everyone,” she says. “That is not the same everywhere.”
Ms. Geller says that every day she works as a teacher is special in its own way. “No two days are alike and each one starts off fresh,” she says. “How you approach things is up to you. You can learn from previous days, build on them or try to forget them and start anew.”
Away from Adaire, Ms. Geller loves reading, taking trips to the shore and spending time with her children. As for what may surprise people about her, Ms. Geller says people are surprised to learn that she used to play competitive softball. Or that she is left-handed. What does not register as a surprise is how much she enjoys teaching---a job she envisioned herself doing at such an early age.
