Municipal Symposium Details & Draft 3rd Board Minutes

2019 Municipal Symposium - Wednesday, May 1st - Saturday, May 4th - Quality Hotel
Hello everyone,

Our 2019 Municipal Symposium is this coming week at the Quality Hotel in Gander. Rooms are booked for all Board at the Quality Hotel for the nights you have previously confirmed with myself or Renee.

2019 Municipal Symposium - Highlights

As of this morning, we have 158 municipal delegates registered for this year's Symposium in Gander, and we expect other registrations to come this week. With speakers, sponsors and exhibitors, we are at the 200 mark for the event.

We are happy to confirm that all 4 party leaders have confirmed an invitation from President Keats to attend a Leaders session on Thursday night. The details on how the session will run will be given to the board at our meeting on Wednesday night. This session will probably generate even more registrations and interest!

On Friday night, the Executive and Craig are meeting with 3 of the NL MPs Caucus. Churence Rogers, Scott Simms and Gudie Hutchings are confirmed for the meeting and are also staying on for the night to meet and socialize with the members.

The most recent agenda for the Symposium is at the following link: 2019 Symposium Agenda.  Not included on the agenda is the UMC BAM! NL Cohort Training Session which is scheduled for Wednesday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, at the College of the North Atlantic campus in Gander. This is for UMC members staff and the UMC council representatives. is a great mix of sessions for all members. With the upcoming election, many of our provincial government speakers and the Minister had to cancel. We have substituted those sessions with some great topics. We will still hold a discussion and collect feedback on the Provincial Waste Management review and the Crown Lands Performance Standards resolution from our members. We currently have 12 exhibits for our showcase, and great support for the event from our sponsors.

Board Logistics Meeting

All Board are asked to be in Gander for our meeting on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm in the hotel Board Room. At that time we will review the logistics for the Symposium, and advise of the Board Chairs for each of the sessions during our event. Here is the information for your review: Session Introduction Notes  An updated version with the specific chairs for each session will be handed out at our meeting on Wednesday evening.

Draft 3rd Board Meeting Minutes & MAA Court Ruling

If you have any questions about the Symposium or need further information, please get in touch.

Thanks and we'll see you all in Gander on Wednesday!
