MIST: Another Year In The Books

From the 20th to the 21st of April 2019, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association USA held its 17th annual Masroor International Sports Tournament, commonly known as MIST. The weekend's event was for soccer, football and strongman competitions, with teams competing from across America and neighboring Canada. Attendance was close to 150 with 12 soccer teams and 6 flag football teams.

The 2-day event was action packed and a high level of sporting skill was on display from all teams. Despite the best efforts of the host US teams, Canada's soccer teams came out on top to win this year's award. A special exhibition match also took place between the US Headquarters team and Canada. The Canadian's again toppled the opposition and won the match by 4 goals to 2.

The US teams had more luck on the football field, with South Virginia battling hard to seal the win in the finals against local rivals Central Virginia, winning 34-26.

Apart from the sporting activities, a special BBQ dinner was held on Saturday night at the Baitur Rehman Mosque for all players, and a tarbiyyati session was held with local Imam, Umar Nayyar sahib.

By the grace of Allah, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants and came to a conclusion with a formal prize distribution ceremony. Sports fans can now look forward to the eagerly anticipated MIST cricket and Basketball tournaments to be held later in the year.

May Allah bless all those who participated and everyone who worked hard in making this event a success. Ameen.

Results
Strongman
In the Strongman contest, the awards were split into 3 weight categories. Saeed Ahmad from CVA won the heavyweight category, Inthesar Tariq won in the Middleweight category and Adnan Ahmad from SVA won in the Lightweight category with the fastest overall time of just 40 seconds to complete the course.

Soccer
After knocking out Maryland in penalty kicks of a hard-fought defense-oriented game during the semis of the tournament, Canada was able to secure the national championship. Both Canadian teams were full of young talent.

In the USA-Canada exhibition match, the US assembled a team of their best talent. The US was able to score 3 goals, but it was proven not enough for a young and athletic Canadian National team who scored 5 goals.

Flag Football
For the second year in a row, SVA and CVA met in the finals. Timur Ahmad scored the touchdown to put SVA up 1 point. SVA sealed the game when Muiz gill had a pick 6. There were a total of 3 touchdowns scored in the last 2 minutes for this Virginia rivalry.
