Neighbors Appeal City's Approval of a 3-Story "Mega-plex" with Rooftop Deck and 2-Story Underground Parking Ramp in a Residential Neighborhood...

Monster Mega Apartment Complex – A proposed project on the corner of Cedar and 6th street is being appealed to City Council this Tuesday night, April 30th.

After being fast tracked through the approval process and planning board meeting held during the holidays, this Mega-Complex was given a green light, even though it violates numerous development standards; it is totally incompatible with the surrounding neighborhood, and reduces affordable housing. No traffic study and NO environmental impact review has been completed, and the developer has been given carte blanche for multiple waivers to increase the density.

The scale and density of this project is unprecedented.  The depth of excavation (over 20 feet) has never been attempted in this part of Burbank and the project is less than 100 feet from an elementary school.  The excavation alone will require over 1,000 truckloads of dirt be hauled away on our residential streets.

This project sits on the site of what were 14 affordable housing units and the city has granted the developer a Density Bonus from 34 allowed by code to 46 granted, in exchange for providing 8 affordable units.  The City is granting the developer a BONUS for a NET LOSS OF 6 AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS!

PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND This is an important appeal coming before City Council – Tuesday April 30th at 6:00 pm in City Council Chambers. Let your voice be heard! We do not need a project with the density of Talaria dropped into the middle of a residential neighborhood!

Just because you don't live in this neighborhood is no reason to ignore what is happening.  The next big project could be going up next door to you.

If you cannot attend, please consider sending an email to the City Council to ask them to deny the density bonus unless all 14 affordable units are replaced; 14 for 14.  Also ask them to deny the setback waivers that will create a cavernous affect on 6th and Cedar.  We may not be able to stop this project, but we can demand that it be compatible with existing neighborhood setbacks, density and height restrictions.
