Get Creative with a Flower Flash in East Finchley
On Sunday 19 May, between 1.00pm-3.30pm Ursula Stone of The Flower Bank is organising a Bloomin Barnet Bins competition as part of the Chelsea Flower Show Fringe.
What is Bloomin Barnet Bins?
It is a flower flash - there will be ten new, clean dustbins around Barnet that teams can decorate within the time with flowers provided by the Flower Bank and any other items you can scavenge. We could use the bin as a giant case, or make a dalek, owl, flowery bonfire, or jellyfish.
Two of the bins will be in East Finchley - one by Market Place playground and one in Barnwood on Tarling Road. If you would like to join a team - come along on the day.
Each team will have a florist assigned to help them, so you don't need any experience with flowers. There will be pictures posted on Instagram afterwards to judge the winning bin. After the flash is finished team members can take the flowers home.
If you would like a reminder on the day, or would like to help with planning, email juliahines@rocketmail.com
The Flower Bank
The Flower Bank is a local social enterprise that works in floristry. They use donated, out of date flowers to make funeral wreaths for families who couldn't otherwise afford them and arrangements for care homes and day centres. They work with a variety of people including young offenders and people with mental health issues to teach floristry skills. They will soon be opening a base in Friern Barnet.
