Wake Up Netherlands: Newsflash!

Lieve broeders en zusters, lieve vrienden,


Een hele vreugdevolle NewsFlash: de retraite (2-5 mei) is vol, het Event van 18 mei (Wake Up voor Iedereen) is vol, maarrrr… het Wake Up Event op de 19e met monniken en nonnen uit Plum Village is gelukkig nog niet helemaal vol :) We weten inmiddels al iets meer details, maar een beetje verrassing blijft leuk natuurlijk ;)

Waar wij al heel erg blij van worden is dat alle monastics (8) die bij de retraite zullen zijn, ook aansluiten bij het Event, gewoon omdat Wake Up Events nou eenmaal heel erg leuk zijn! Het is een mix van Nederlandse monniken en nonnen en monastics van over de hele wereld, die in het Engels met ons zullen spreken.

Waarom nu een NewsFlash?

Deze kans komt niet zo vaak voorbij en we hebben hier vooral aandacht aan besteed op FB.
Maar ja, Facebook...

Dus wil je ook graag naar Tricht komen om samen met andere Wake Uppers te delen, verbinden en te spelen? En heb je wel wat vragen die je zou willen stellen aan monastics over mindfulness, de beoefening, of Sangha-bouwen?

Wake Up Netherlands is experimenting with finding ways to come together, and suggestions are -as always- very welcome :)

Wake Up Event: Awareness is like sunshine

This is a Happy Moment :)
Monks and nuns are traveling from Plum Village to the Netherlands as this NewsFlash is being created! And even though the retreat and Event on May 18th are completely sold out, there is still a chance to meet them and practice together.

On May 19th, Vriendenhuis Nooitgedacht in Tricht will host us for a wonderful opportunity to shine the light of awareness on everything that is alive in us. Supported by the monastics, we will have a chance to connect with ourselves and each other, sit in silence, sing, play and be inspired. Of course there will be a dharma talk and time for sharing and questions. We will share a vegetarian lunch and enjoy the weather together.

So why a NewsFlash?

We have been keeping folks updated mainly through Facebook, but well.. that is not everyone, right?
So just to give a shout out: if you want to join this event, the time is NOW :)!

When I sit in meditation, there is just the sitting.
I focus all my attention on my breathing.
Even when thoughts arise, I let them drift by like clouds in the sky, returning to my breath again and again.
This habit helps me surf the waves of a storm whenever it passes. I cannot control the waves. But I have learned how to navigate, without being swept away by violent emotions.

Thay reminds us again and again not to wait until we are facing a storm. It is too difficult.
We are invited to start practicing right away, whether it is sitting by ourselves, or in a sangha.
We can flex our mindfulness muscles by practicing sitting, walking, singing or cutting vegetables while being fully present for what we are doing. There doesn't have to be any violence towards yourself, just persistence.
