Vappu Celebration Today!

Each year the country of Finland takes a break from their daily routines to pause and celebrate together. Vappu, celebrated on May 1, marks the end of winter. The holiday also serves as international recognition day of labor.

This year, the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) is hosting a Vappu (May Day) celebration at the FAHC today at 6 p.m.

Co-hosted by the Finnish Theme Committee of Hancock and Finlandia University, the event will include live music, dancing, plenty of tasty Finnish picnic-style foods and much more.

Midway through the program, the Finnish Theme Committee will conduct a brief program, during which they will recognize many of the folks who’ve earned the honor of Hankookin Heikki during the past two decades.

The event is open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend. For more information, call David Maki (906) 487-7549.
