Alaska INBRE's primary aim is to expand the multi-disciplinary research and teaching network to support biomedical and health research expertise, infrastructure, and translational capacity. Requests must meet one of the goals of Alaska INBRE, which is to increase capacity in Alaska for biomedical and health research, including One Health and basic biomedical research themes. This award is divided into two categories and is intended to address the needs for special requests as follows:

Category 1 - Urgent Requests:  Expenditure deadline June 30, 2019. Allowable expenditures include salary support, service contracts, supplies, and contractual services. No carryover is allowed.

Category 2 - Equipment and Other Support:  Expenditure deadline December 31, 2019. Allowable expenditures include one-time items like equipment. Other requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Equipment requests may require the approval of NIH and no carryover is allowed.

This is a pre-proposal opportunity announcement.  The selected applicants will be required to submit a full proposal to NIH in coordination with the INBRE PI/Director Brian Barnes by May 31, 2019 via PAR-18-591 following the guidance in NOT-GM-19-025.

TRAVEL AWARDS:  The EPSCoR Fire and Ice project will competitively award travel funds to UA faculty, staff and students to present their research, to interact with colleagues and mentors, and/or to obtain training in science related to program goals. Travel may be to conferences, workshops, trainings, or other appropriate academic settings, and should relate to Fire and Ice project goals. Awards are for up to $3,500 and cover domestic travel only. Travel must be completed by September 1, 2019. Application deadline is April 30. INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGES WORKSHOP:  EPSCoR invites University of Alaska faculty, staff, students and affiliates to a workshop examining key questions about the role of Indigenous Knowledges in academia. Topics include how Indigenous Knowledges can be engaged in teaching and research with integrity, using authentic and decolonizing methods. Co-leaders Drs. Ocean Mercier and Beth Leonard will briefly present on their collaborative work, lead a roundtable discussion that examines successes and challenges, then assist participants in generating plans or strategies for engaging Indigenous Knowledges in their future teaching and/or research. Workshop will be held at UAA on May 6, and at UAF on May 10. Travel funding may be available for UA affiliates in Juneau. Registration is free but space is limited.
