As first reported in The Sun: Andrew Janz, the prosecutor and former Congressional hopeful, quietly filed to challenge Fresno Mayor Lee Brand on Friday, ending his public deliberation.
On Sunday, Janz's team registered a new website – JanzForMayor.com – for the 2020 effort, albeit the site featured dummy content.
Janz issued a low-frills statement confirming the filing and withholding any updates on a formal announcement, which is rumored to be on Thursday.
Brand spits fire: In a statement, Brand said Janz has "a track record that consists of saying ‘I’m not Devin Nunes,' Will his new campaign be ‘I’m not Lee Brand’? To which I reply, “Yes, young man, you’re right. You’re not Lee Brand. You aren’t even close.'”
Behind-the-Scenes: Beyond Janz, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer has popped up as a potential candidate in 2020, with his name making its way to polling conducted by GVWire. Dyer has yet to express interest in running against Brand.

A look at Kern County's prospective massive casino resort: Seven years after receiving Federal recognition as a sovereign nation, the Tejon Indian Tribe is making strides to launch a 300,000+ square foot casino resort near Mettler.
The tribe, which owns the land via a Las Vegas-based subsidiary, has no Federally-recognized sovereign land. The proposed casino would serve as first phase of tribal lands, if approved.
The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs released its scoping report, which will ultimately shape the department's environmental impact statement, and final recommendation for the Department of Interior.
Finalizing the next step, the environmental report, is targeted for the end of 2019.

Voir dire starts today: After a one-day break, Joaquin Arambula returns to court today for jury selection.
On Friday, Judge Alvin Harrell III held an evidentiary hearing over the testimony of Dr. Michael Allshouse. Allshouse is the medical director for pediatric surgery and pediatric trauma at Valley Children's Hospital.
During the hearing, Allshouse reviewed images of the injuries inflicted on Arambula's seven-year-old daughter. Ultimately, the doctor's testimony was ruled to be admissible.
I'll be checking in on jury selection today. Follow along via Twitter.

O'Rourke seldom seen, heard in single Valley stop: Presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke's visit to Modesto was about as contained as it could be.
The former El Paso Congressman stopped by Modesto Junior College for a private roundtable discussion on policy, including water and wildfire prevention. He also toured the college's agriculture program and irrigation technology center.
Before the visit to Modesto, O'Rourke announced his first major policy initiative at Yosemite National Park – a net-zero emissions plan by 2050 estimated to cost roughly $5 trillion.
None of O'Rourke's stops in the region were open to the public.

Tedford taps Reyna as starting QB: Jorge Reyna, the Downey native who worked behind Marcus McMaryion for two seasons will take over under center for the Bulldogs come August.
In 11 appearances during the 2018 season, Reyna compiled a 66% completion percentage with 111 yards passing and one touchdown. He also served as the primary placeholder for the team.
The decision by Tedford also signals a clean QB transition, avoiding the needless quarterback controversy that plagued the team after Derek Carr left the program for the NFL.
