OES ExCo Meeting and Ocean Energy in Islands Workshop Briefing

Ocean Energy Systems (OES) Executive Committee (ExCo) meets twice a year, offering two avenues for country members to participate in the meeting: as a country delegate, or as a member of technical and research project teams.

Australia was recently represented by its alternate delegate Luke Murray – Principal of Capacitus Consulting and AOEG member – at the 36th OES ExCo meeting, held in Mexico during March.

In addition, an OES-supported workshop on Ocean Energy in Islands and Remote Communities will be held on 2-3 May 2019 in Hawaii (download workshop flyer below).  Four representatives from Australia are attending and a summary of the meeting will be included in this briefing.

We invite you to attend an insightful online briefing with Luke Murray along with an Island workshop participant, as they provide first-hand accounts of these meetings.

This briefing offers a rare opportunity to engage with the delegates about event highlights, understand their relevance to the Australian ocean energy community, ask questions and gain additional insight into the OES.

ABOUT THE OES

OES ExCo Background and Context

Ocean Energy Systems (OES) is an intergovernmental collaboration between more than twenty countries, operating under a framework established by the International Energy Agency (IEA). OES’s key education and research programs aim to accelerate the viability, uptake and acceptance of ocean energy systems in an environmentally acceptable way.

Australia became a member of the OES in 2018, through grant support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency's (ARENA) International Engagement Program (IEP). Our membership helps build a network of subject-matter-experts who we can look to for advice, guidance and potential resources to further Australian ocean energy research and development.

The OES Executive Committee (ExCo) meets twice a year to take decisions on management, participation and implementation aspects of the OES. Australia must provide a country representative at these meetings. The primary Australian delegate is the CSIRO’s Mark Hemer, with the AOEG proudly serving as the alternate delegate.
