Future of Food Dialogue Series

Food Roundtable: Knowledge from
Agroecological Experience

When we ignore the agroecological knowledge of farmers and local communities, what do we lose? Join us on Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m. at the Liu Institute for a roundtable discussion with Dr. Barbara Gemmill-Herren. In this talk, Dr. Gemmill-Herren will explore methods to facilitate better capturing of local experiences and impacts that ultimately reflect larger patterns in agriculture.

A photo exhibit on agrobiodiversity and food security called "Nature and Nourishment: The Agrobiodiversity and Food Security Nexus" will also be on display.

No registration is required and the event is open to all. Light refreshments are provided.

Feeding Growth is Hiring

Feeding Growth Hiring Project Coordinator

Feeding Growth is an initiative that supports progressive food businesses through a series of workshops, seminars and community-building events. We’re looking for someone to help expand and strengthen our community.

This is a part-time, hourly position that could complement well with another part-time position. Our dream? A caring and easy-going food entrepreneur supporter, a planning and organization wizard, and a “get things done” warrior — all in one person. This position is from June to December, with possible extension.

Upcoming Bird Surveys

American Pipits A'Plenty at the Farm

We had a unique bird sighting at the UBC Farm during the last Nature Vancouver Monthly Bird Survey. Bird watchers saw a large flock of about 40 migrating American Pipits feeding in the newly ploughed fields. This is the first sighting of Pipits at the UBC farm. American Pipits look and behave like a Robin, but are slightly smaller in size. They are migrating North in flocks where they breed at higher alpine/tundra locations.

Are you interested in joining the UBC Farm monthly bird survey? Join on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 8 a.m. during the spring/summer and at 9 a.m. during the fall/winter. Next survey is on May 19th 8 a.m.
