Through riveting and moving personal recollections of both Palestinians and Israelis,
1948: Creation & Catastrophe reveals the shocking events of the most pivotal year in the most controversial conflict in the world.
1948: Creation & Catastrophe is the story of Palestine/Israel as seen through the eyes of Israelis, Palestinians, and British who lived there during that crucial year. The filmmakers interviewed many people who had never been able to tell their stories before. This film is the last chance to hear the stories of veterans, refugees and witnesses who actually lived the conflict of 1948; many have already passed away. The two filmmakers did ten years of research and interviewed leading Arab and Israeli historians who appear in the film. Rather than being a history lesson, this documentary is crucial for present-day understanding of the Israel/Palestine conflict.
By dispelling the myths about 1948 and providing an understanding of the events of that foundational moment, this documentary makes it possible for Americans to make sense of the present conflict. And once we understand the conflict, it becomes much more possible to find a solution.
