May...
and with it the warm sunshine and the chance to leave our winter coats at home... April started off slow, but picked up into a frenzy towards the end with the kickoff of the NAIL 20th Anniversary Tour at the Wherehouse. Thanks to everyone who came out! We had a great turnout and the band was in top form. The big EEEMFest Electronic music event in Rutherford NJ was a wonderful event, with all manner of amazing performances and just plain great people.
MAY starts off with an Ableton Hudson Valley User Group meetup on May 1st at the delightful Quinn's in Beacon, and features a performance from my friend Robert Dorschel. Then a May 4th gig with Indian Fusion masters Rudra at the Bean Runner in Peekskill, followed by the return of NAIL to New York City at the Offside Tavern (free tix here) The month continues with the Eric Person Quartet, Steve Frieder Group, Newburgh Open Movement, the 4th Saturday Jazz series and more. Once again I'm enormously thankful for all the opportunities tome great music with great artists.
As always, keep an eye on that calendar page for current info!
Here's what's up in May and beyond:
Join us for the next AHVUG meetup, this time at the fabulous Quinn's in Beacon NY. Our special guest this week is non other than Electronic Music artist and our new neighbor Robert Dorschel, who's just relocated to the Hudson Valley from Syracuse NY where he puts on the wonderful Northeast Electro-Music Festival - NEEMfest (in Homer NY, this year in early September). Robert uses a fairly complex setup which includes video. I'll do a brief piece of music as well, then we'll take your questions and proceed to lively discussions about electronic music production, Ableton LIVE and all manner of things...There's no cover and the food/drink are the stuff of legend around here so I hope you'll join us!

Once again I'm proud to present an evening of great contemporary jazz with great musicians, for my Fourth Saturday Jazz (4SJ) residency at the Wherehouse. This month will feature my old friend Gary Kelly on bass and Peter O'Brien on drums. Gary and I first met in NYC in 1982....!! We've done many projects together and it's always been fun and rewarding. Gary has played with many artists and is currently touring with guitarist Stanley Jordan. Peter is a well known local drummer phenom, playing with groups like Orleans, Peggy Stern’s Estrella Trio, Eric Person and Meta 4, Brother Jack McDuff and Edgar Winter. You can expect some serious musical fireworks!
