Looking through Photos of a Past Trip

The newest addition to our TEQ series features Yuan Zhao’s 11th-grade Chinese class at Mamaroneck High School in New York. "Looking at the Photos of a Past Trip" is an instructional activity which introduces a sentence structure for talking about a past event. In this video, the teacher demonstrates how to teach Chinese grammar in context without using English.

2019 CLTA-WA Conference—Dr. Wei-ling Wu will lead a full-day workshop at the University of Washington, in Seattle, August 17, 2019. Participants will learn various communicative tasks and effective strategies that can be used for students of different ages and proficiency levels. Learn more and register.

Summer 2019 in Beijing—Co-sponsored by the Center for International Foreign Language Teacher Education (CILFTE) at Teachers College, Columbia University and the Division of Chinese International Education at Beijing Language and Culture University, the Summer 2019 TCSOL/TESOL Summer Dual Certificate Program in Beijing is currently accepting applications.
 
Mandarin Institute Online PRE-AP Program—Students with a minimum of 2 years' Chinese instruction can apply for this free program, made possible by a STARTALK grant. Upon completion of the 50-hour program, students will improve their proficiency level with exposure to AP content and instruction. Registration deadline is April 30, 2019.
 
New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese—Jointly with Teachers College at Columbia University and Nanjing University, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York will hold their 17th conference at Teachers College in New York. The theme of the conference is "Celebrating the Centennial of the May the 4th New Culture Movement." The conference welcomes teachers, practitioners, and administrators in the field to attend and present. Conference date is May 4, 2019.
