Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term Two and may every Easter blessing be with you all.
We have been reviewing our communication platforms with parents recently using the St Leo's P.R.I.D.E. Framework. This framework is part of a College wide review that aims to ensure all areas of the College are Personalised, Rigorous, Innovative, Dynamic and Evangelising. As a result of this review, it is with great pleasure that we launch our new and improved parent communications commencing this term.
This revised newsletter will continue to be called 'The Pride', and will be sent electronically every five weeks as a showcase of the learning experiences that have taken place in each of the six Growth Domains, as part of the College's commitment to the development of the whole person.
The second is a new document for parents to be sent weekly, titled 'The Lion Roars'. It will detail logistical notices regarding important dates, reminders and updates for parents. Finally, the new College website will be relaunched shortly and will boast much improved user navigation, accessibility and live streaming from College social media accounts.
We hope you enjoy reading and viewing the articles below that are the result of a passion driven learning journey aimed at assisting our students reach their greatness.

On March 29, Catholic Youth of Broken Bay ran the World Youth Day Reunion & Thanksgiving PraiseFest Night at the Light of Christ Centre, Wahroonga with several hundred young people gathered.

ACYF 2019
Last term we launched the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) from the 7-12th December 2019 in Perth. Students in Years 9-12 have been invited to consider applying for this exciting opportunity.

Project Compassion
Congratulations to Year 8 who raised the highest amount across all year groups, at $285.05. As a school we raised $1347.55.

Best Start Year 7
‘Best Start Year 7’ is a new online literacy and numeracy assessment for students on entry into Year 7. St Leo’s Year 7 students recently completed this assessment. The results from this testing have informed the teaching practice and wellbeing programs across the College. Read more...

From time to time, a student may say their parents that they do not have any homework to complete. While on occasion a student may not have specific homework for that day, there is always work (or learning) to complete when we set the goal of achieving greatness. Read more...

Touch Football
Congratulations to Monique Dever, Nathan Hassan & Mitchell MacDonald who played for Broken Bay at the NSWCCC Touch Championships. Nathan made the NSWCCC Team and Mitchell narrowly missed out.
Overall, Broken Bay finished second in the Open Boys and third in the Open Girls.

Chiara's Success
Congratulations to Chiara Donagemma who represented Australia in the World Synchronized Skating Championships in Finland recently.
Chiara and her team competed in front of 7000 people and finished15th in the World, the best ever rank of any Australian team.

Year 10 PASS Biathlon
On the last Friday of Term 1, both Year 10 Physical Activity and Sport Study (PASS) classes heading to South Curl Curl beach for the annual St Leo’s PASS Biathlon. The Biathlon is the opportunity for the students to demonstrate their physical capabilities after a Term of training during both class time and away from the College in both swimming and running. Throughout the term the students have completed the multi-stage fitness test and the 1.6km run to build their cardio-respiratory endurance, and also a 400m swim at Hornsby Aquatic Centre.

Students needed to complete a 600m swim in the Ocean Pool followed by a 2km run on the sand. All the students performed the Biathlon to the best of the ability with some fantastic individual results. The three best times were:
Females:
1. Julia Rologas 21.35minutes
2. Jade Wright 25.03 minutes
3. Rachel Glendenning 26.46 minutes
Males:
1. Angus Perrett 20.18 minutes
2. Deven Flanagan 20.28 minutes
3. Oliver Wright 26.20 minutes

Harmony Day
Last term, our Year 12 Leaders celebrated Australian multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our community through a special College initiative - Harmony Day. Read more...

Kiribati Movie Night
In response to ecological concerns facing the island nation of Kiribati, throughout Term 1 our immersion team have been working hard to raise funds for visit in July including a series of BBQs.
They now have a movie night planned for 22 May at Events Cinemas, Hornsby and you are invited!

Street Retreat
St Leo's Year 11 Community and Family Studies class went out on Street Retreat for our annual Easter event, cooking a BBQ for the homeless. It was an amazing experience for all involved.

Musical Update
Our musical students were very busy during the holidays with three extra rehearsals!
Excited to see the musical developing, the ‘dial tones’ could not stop laughing at some of their choreography. The show is coming together and will be a hit with all ages.
Dates will be confirmed very soon for later this term.

Japan Tour
A group of 16 language students from Years 9, 10 and 12 have just returned from an extensive cultural tour of Japan.
Read about their amazing two week trip incuding the Golden Temple, the Atomic Centre in Hiroshima and a baseball game as well as five nights homestay with a Japanese family.

Ensembles Concert
The CAPA Ensembles Concert held at the end of Term 1 in The Light of Christ Centre saw a wonderful variety of music confidently and musically presented to an appreciative audience.
