Housing Winkfield Play Area Opening

On 10th April the new Winkfield Children Playground was officially opened for families with young children.

The Mayor of Haringey attended to witness the opening ceremony alongside Homes for Haringey staff.

Over sixty children were present to enjoy the various activities including face painting, smoothie bike, arts and crafts and a design competition for the bin area.

The Community Engagement Team supported the involvement of local parents who participated in the event and the local police were present to interact with our residents and joined in the activities.

Reda Khelladi, Community & Resident Engagement Manager said, “Thank you to all the teams for a good opening of a playground for our residents and their community. We will look to build on this to broaden our engagement with residents and encourage new residents to become involved.”

European Elections 2019

Voting in this year’s European Elections will take place on Thursday May 23.

Polling stations across Haringey will be open on the day from 7am to 10pm and will be listed here.

Local authorities have a shorter timescale to prepare for the elections than usual, as we have been awaiting news on whether the UK would be part of the European Elections this year, based on Brexit decisions from Central Government. This has now been confirmed.

Nominations for candidates will close on 25 April. You can still register to vote until 7 May, and you can do that here.

The deadline for registering for a postal vote or making changes to your current voting arrangements is 8 May, and the deadline for proxy voting is 15 May. You can do that here.

Results of the election will be announced on Sunday May 26, when other European countries have finished voting over the weekend.

Zina Etheridge, Chief Executive of Haringey Council, said: “With only six weeks to do what usually takes five months, the council, and our residents, will need to move more quickly and be more prepared if voting by post, or from overseas. Please make sure you are aware of the necessary steps to make your vote count.”

The election also means that as a council, we must limit the publicity and communications we put out in the pre-election ‘purdah’ period, so things may look a little different for the next few weeks.

There is more information on voting in Haringey here.

Imperial Wharf Community Day

The Homes for Haringey Resident Engagement Team have been working with the residents of Imperial Wharf to establish a resident’s association since March of last year.

On April 17th, residents had a fantastic turn out of families and people of all ages who joined in the activities, including a petting zoo, bouncy castle, arts and crafts, face painter and much more!
Esther, who has worked hard to encourage residents on the estate to get involved said, “This was a brilliant event,  am very happy that so many of us came out for the day”.
Local resident, Avril, also offered a free pampering service to residents. Avril said, “As a new start-up, this was a good way for me to test the market and use this event in our community centre as a kind of pop-up shop, and I am doing it for other residents on my estate, it’s been great!

Community and Resident Engagement Team Manager, Reda Khelladi said, “It was a wonderful event and a great day for the local community with lots of great feedback. Well done everyone for organising such a good event and a huge thank you to all the residents who helped and made it all possible”.
