ROBALO ARE RUNNING

On the morning of May 1, there was a line of thousands of union marchers on Juarez street observing "Día del Trabajo (Labor Day), a national holiday in Mexico.  Two blocks away on the beach next to the malecón, there were dozens of women and men casting lines from the rocky shore.  Robalo ("snook"),  a large, flaky and tasty white fish, were running.  They continued to run all week because of  the "bait balls" of sardines close to the beach.  In the twelve years I´ve lived in Vallarta, have never seen any fishing on this part of the bay before.

ONE OF SEVERAL IMPORTANT REASONS TO SPAY/NEUTER - ABANDONMENT.  UNO DE UNOS RAZONES IMPORTANTES PARA ESTERILIZAR - ABANDONAMIENTO:

ABANDONADOS,  RESCATADOS  POR LA PATRULLA VERDE Y EN EL ALBERGUE PARA ADOPCIÓN

Two abandoned mama dogs and their newborn puppies were reported to the "green patrol" ("patrulla verde" - call 911)).  They were all picked up and taken to the Albergue  (formerly the city pound known as the Acopio) and are waiting to be adopted. Brischa Borchgrevink, co-owner of LADRA, received a report of two dead puppies in someone´s yard.   When she arrived at the location, Brischa found a mama dog on a chain and ten dead puppies.  Owners of the dog gave Brischa permission to take the surviving puppy, which was covered in ticks, to LADRA for future adoption.

It was a 2 1/2-day clinic week (Thursday through half-day Saturday)  because of the May 1 holiday on Wednesday.

I was there on Thursday morning when albergue employees (formerly known as the acopio)  arrived in a truck carrying 15 cats and dogs for spay/neuter. The siamese-mix kittens and two tan, five-month old puppies were particularly appealing.  Another group of cats and dogs from the albergue arrived for sterilization on Friday.

CACHORROS DEL ALBERGUE (ACOPIO) TRAIDOS PARA ESTERILIZACIÓN - EN ADOPCIÓN - 293-3690

On Friday, I returned to meet up with board member, Ofelia Osuna McHugh and her brother, Juanito Osuna.

In December, Juanito made a matching gift of $3,000 USD to PEACEAnimals clinics.  It was the first spay/neuter of any kind he had ever attended and commented that it was "amazing."

Beautiful animals from the Albergue and for adoption include a wonderful, two-year  old male Dalmatian

On Saturday, volunteer Angela Kelleher brought five two-month old puppies she had found with their mama
5 TRAIDOS A LA CLÍNICA SÁBADO Y 3 ENCONTRARON HOGARES ALLÁ.    HAY 9 EN TOTAL.  CONTACTO:  ANGELA KELLEHER SI INTERESADO EN IN BEBÉ DE 2 MESES Y/O EN LA SOCIABLE MAMÁ.

In an empty dirt lot in Colonia San Esteben.  Left behind were the friendly mama and four nursing puppies and two that had died, PLUS two more mamas and their young puppies.  Angela found homes for three of the puppies at the PEACEAnimals clinic and is looking for homes for the two white, fluffy two-month old puppies she took home with her.  Although the three mama dogs have dug dens and covered them with brush, the animals cannot all survive there.  If you can help, please contact Angela Kelleher via FB.  All these dogs are friendly.

STERILIZATIONS AT CLINIC- PARQUE LINEAL - MAY 2-4:

Female dogs - 35;
Male dogs- 21;
Female cats - 37;
Male cats - 35

TOTAL:  128

This is a great accomplishment on the part of the vets and vet tech.  Dr. Pacheco was off this past clinic week and there was no clinic on Wednesday because of the holiday.  In 2.5 days, Dr. Poli,  Dr. Anthony and Leslie were heroes.
