PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Another academic year is fast coming to a close and we reflect on a busy, successful and productive year at CBS Kilkenny. We have much to be thankful for, and we appreciate the support of the whole community in helping us to provide the very best educational and holistic experience for our students. It remains only for me to thank you and the staff of CBS Kilkenny for your support, to wish our state exam students every success and to wish all of our students and their families a very happy and healthy summer.
Tom Clarke
STATE EXAM STUDENTS
We wish all of our students who are sitting their state exmainations every success. You have worked diligently and your efforts will be rewarded. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh.
RACE NIGHT FUNDRAISER
On May 24 2019, the Parents Council of CBS Kilkenny held a very successful Race Night fundraising event for the new school development fund. On a lovely summer evening, a large crowd gathered at Kilkenny Greyhound stadium for a social evening of racing, banter, fantastic raffle prizes and great entertainment.

An event of this nature requires a lot of advance planning and a Race Night Committee was formed in February 2019. It was headed up by Claire Brennan and Paul O'Donoghue, and they received great support from Parents Council members and Robbie Dowling, former student and greyhound afficionado! The committee worked extremely hard for many months to organise a great evening and to co-ordinate top class prizes and sponsorship.
Well done and sincere thanks for all of your work.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE 2019
The Lourdes Youth Helpers are a voluntary group of approximately fifty young people who accompany the Ossory Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes from 21st – 26th of May every year. Since 2002, CBS Kilkenny has been delighted to be part of this wonderful group.
This year, the students who represented the school were Eamonn Doran, Brendan Dunne, Peter Dunne, Thomas Lawlor, Sean Maher and Brendan Walsh. The boys gave of their time very generously and really entered into the spirit of Lourdes.
Sincere thanks to Ms Colleton who accompanied the students on this wonderful trip.
CLASS OF 2019 GRADUATION
On Tues May 21 2019, the Class of 2019 officially graduated from CBS Kilkenny and attended mass with their parents and guardians and school staff. Chaplain, Fr Jim Murphy, celebrated mass and congratulated the students on this important milestone which marks an end to their secondary education and an important new chapter in their lives. Ms Ryan, 6th Year Head, offered the Light of Wisdom, while Ms Murphy, representing the parent body, offered them the Light of Love.
Principal Mr Clarke expressed our pride in them and his wish that they find fulfilment and happiness in their lives and that they always feel a sense of belonging to CBS Kilkenny.
CLASS OF 2019 STAFF-STUDENT CELEBRATION
On May 20 2019, the staff of CBS Kilkenny enjoyed a wonderful meal with the Class of 2019. A great evening of reminiscing ensued, ably supported by a slideshow of many photographs of the students taken over the last six years. It was an opportunity for Lucy Ryan, Year Head, and Principal Tom Clarke, to wish all of them every success in their exams and every happiness in their future lives.
CLASS of 2019 CLIMB SLIABH NA MBAN
As is traditional every year, our Sixth Year students climbed Sliabh na mBan last week to mark the end of their six years in CBS Kilkenny. Many notable memories of their time in school were recounted during the climb. It was a special occasion for a great group of students.
Thanks to our RE department for organising the annual day out.
WHOLE SCHOOL AWARDS
On Wednesday May 15 2019, CBS Kilkenny celebrated the myriad achievements of our students at the annual Blessed Edmund Rice Awards Night. Celebration is a very important part of human life, especially when marking success, and the talents of CBS Kilkenny students provide many opportunities to celebrate.

On the night, students were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements, sporting prowess, debating, music, history and much more. Three prestigious new awards were inaugurated this year, each of which is awarded a perpetual trophy. These are the Parents Council Spirit of Edmund Rice Award (Barry Lawlor), the Caitriona O'Brien Social Justice Award (Finian Breen) and the Colm Dunne Memorial Award (Jack O'Neill).

Guest of honour on the night was Fr Peter McVerry who congratulated all of the students and their families. He saluted young people for their generosity of spirit and time. Fr McVerry presented Shane Staunton with the prestigious McFadden medal.
Sincere thanks to Ms Dooley, Ms Cahill, Ms Meaney and Ms Dowling for a highly organised and enjoyable evening.
RICE CUP
On Friday May 17 2019, CBS Kilkenny met CBS Midelton in the final of the prestigious Rice Cup. This year marked the 75th anniversary of the competition. Our hurlers gave a wonderful display and fought hard against a strong Midelton team who prevailed on the day.

Congratulations to the team and the mentors on reaching the final of this keenly contested competition.
Well done and sincere thanks for a great season to mentors Mr McCormack, Mr Moran, Mr Hanley, Ms Kavanagh and Mr Mulhall.
TY AWARDS
This year's Transition Year Awards ceremony took place during the afternoon of Thursday May 16. The ceremony began with speeches from both Mr. Morrissey and Mr. Clarke, followed by music from students Philp Behan and Joe Leydon and the TY choir. Many awards were presented to recognise students for their achievements in different aspects of Transition Year.
The awards presented include; awards for e-portfolios throughout the year, Special Merit awards, Music Award (Joe Leydon), Student of the Year in each of the TY class groups and the Spirit of Transition Year Award which was presented to Eamonn Doran.
