PIEFA videos feature on myfuture careers website
Helping people choose career paths with its extensive profiles of different industries and professions, myfuture.edu.au is a great resource for students, teachers and career advisors. Login via your education network or create a new personal account and make sure you check out two of PIEFA's videos. We're excited our videos feature in the crop farmer and livestock farmer profiles. 
Catch up with PIEFA at the 2019 STEM Teacher Symposium
PIEFA is excited to be attending and presenting at the 2019 STEM Teacher Symposium in Brisbane this September. The two-day symposium will bring together experts from research and education to explore the development of a culture of evidence-based practice for STEM education in Queensland state schools. PIEFA is offering a VIP CONASTA Conference Banquet Ticket to the winner of our Primezone Testimonial Competition. Investigating key Australian fibre production practices:
Years 7 and 8, Geography, Science and Technologies

This unit from PIEFA encourages students to investigate new and existing production practices used to produce cotton, timber and wool products. It also gives students an insight into ways primary producers in the cotton or wool sectors and foresters in the wood sector produce; process and bring their products to consumers. View resource.
Growing salmon sustainably: Years 5 and 6, Geography
This resource aims to provide teachers of students in Years 5 and 6 with information to investigate fish farming/aquaculture in Australia and determine its future sustainability. View resource.

Human capital is critical to agriculture's future success - Joanne Marshall
Joanne Marshall is the Project Manager and CEO of the Australian Agricultural Centre, the Centre of Excellence for Education and Demonstration of Agricultural Products and Processes. Jo recently published her ideas on the merit of human capital in the agricultural sector and encouraging the next generation. 
Marchus Oldham Rural Leadership Scholarship for beef industry 
The Australian Beef Industry Foundation (ABIF) is offering seven people involved in the beef supply chain, aged between 21 and 40, the opportunity to attend a one-week Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership program at Marcus Oldham College in Geelong, Victoria early July 2019. Applications close soon, on 31 May 2019, so check it out now.
WoolProducers Australia youth ambassador opportunity
WoolProducers Australia noticed a gap in Australian wool industry representation and decided to address this gap with their new program, Raising the Baa. The Raising the Baa Program will provide an innovative and supportive environment for wool industry leaders to develop and refine their leadership skills in order to contribute to the ongoing capacity and capability building within industry. Visit Tocal College to get a taste of student life 
Tocal College in NSW is one of Australia's leading agriculture and agribusiness education providers where students develop practical skills and in depth knowledge while working on the College's large commercial beef, dairy, sheep, poultry and horse enterprises. Tocal will be hosting open days in July and October and prospective students and their families are invited to visit the College and get a feel for what life as a student is really like. 
Agricultural education to feature at country shows 
Bridget Lee, a teacher from Parkes Public School, NSW has been awarded a Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) Foundation Community Futures Grant for her project to boost agricultural education for young children. With her $10,000 grant Bridget plans to build a low-cost children’s activity zone in a trailer with agricultural games for children that can be hired out to local shows and community events. 
Green banana rum? Putting waste to work
AgriFutures Australia's 2018 Rural Women's Award National Winner Krista Watkins has turned her focus to the entire food industry and the issue of waste at the farm gate. Together with her husband Rob they're developing banana flour, sweet potato flour, broccoli powder and in partnership with a local distillery, green banana rum. Prestigious National Student Award goes to NSW ag scientist
Stephanie MacKillop from NSW has taken out the Ag Institute Australia (AIA) National Student Award (NSA). Stephanie was presented with the AEV Richardson Memorial Award after winning the NSA final in Tasmania. Stephanie also won the People’s Choice Award for her presentation on ‘Soldier flies for protein production and waste reduction’, her entomology research topic at the University of Sydney.

Agriculture industry books for regional schools 
Farmer John Nicoletti is donating 2,000 sets of The Grower books to rural and regional schools in selected postcodes around Australia. The books are published by rural lifestyle photographer Alice Mabin who spent 12 months working with over 500 farmers across Australia to capture the heart of our agriculture industry. Yates and Life Education announce Growing Good Gardens grants 
The 2019 Yates and Life Education ‘Growing Good Gardens’ Grants Program is now open! The grants encourage young people to design and create their own gardens, that promote a healthy lifestyle and an interest in growing fresh fruit and vegies. There are 10 grants to be won, valued at $1,000 each and entries are open to early learning centres, schools, youth and community groups  across Australia. Find out more before applications close on 17 June 2019.
2019 farm safety calendar competition now open
The farm safety calendar competition for primary schools run by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is now open. Prizes include $250 vouchers for students and $500 for schools. Queensland primary school children are encouraged to draw and colour a picture to illustrate one of the farm safety topics and enter before 28 June 2019.
