Mother's Day was yesterday.  This is a copy of Dorothea Lange's migrant mother, Florence Owens Thompson, and her daughters in 1936. See The New York Times article giving fascinating detail about her photos at:

From Marsha, Outgoing President Who Already Went... to the Beach!

First, thanks to John Gordon who will get an early start at the meeting tonight as incoming President.  And I must thank the Board members again, all of whom have been so wonderful for the last year (actually two years for most of them). Many of us have worked with people who performed poorly even when they were getting paid; these people have done whatever needed doing without pay and done it happily! They are the best Board members EVER!!

Remember the Aiken Artist Guild meeting tonight 6:30 pm at Aiken Center for the Arts. Officers and Board members for the coming year will be officially elected during the brief business meeting, after which John Gordon will do a pottery demonstration and morph into AAG President. Walking around to see our members' art will be a special treat, because it is fine work. And such variety... I've already been by several times just to gawk and wonder how some of it was done and how some of our minds work!

We owe a special thanks to our Judge, Joe Kameen. He is indeed a brave man to judge the show, even though he has to live in this town and lots of us already know him!  He did a thoughtful and careful job and had way too many good entries to consider.

Remember that our AAG year stops for the summer, so we'll see each other again in September. I'll stop doing the Weekly, except if there is a special reason this summer. Remember that all Weekly newsletters are available on the AAG website, and all member names and contact info are there, as well. The top secret password is LoveArt.

We had a good number of people join just recently. We'll get to know you better in the fall and are delighted to have "new blood" to keep us from getting stale. If any of you want a job, just tell John or anyone on the Board. We do have a few jobs remaining.  Thanks for making my two years as President fairly smooth and pleasant. I've met so many good people...that has been the best. Our Board meetings were actually fun, and I found time to paint some, too.

Keep on making art this summer...it's good for your health and happiness!

With affection and good memories,

Marsha Shelburn
