A lot of people expected me to be the narrator of the audiobook. At first, I did too! I had all of the equipment ready and warmed up. But when I sat down to do the recording, I had a hard time with it. Of course, there is the technical side—most of which people never think of—that I had to learn. Tech learning is one of my specialties, so that wasn't the big issue. Transformed is too close to my heart. And it's because of that that many people advise authors not to narrate their own books, at least if their books are stories with characters, like Transformed.
That's when I decided to find a professional. I noted some criteria I was looking for (articulate, young adult male with a standard American accent), took a sample from Chapter Seventeen, and put it out there. About a dozen people auditioned for the part, including one female 🤔. I was impressed! I settled on my first two choices: Steve from Queens, New York, and Cameron from Ohio. I contacted Steve, and he and I were working out some details for pre-production before he had to suddenly drop out. Then, it was up to Cameron. It didn't take long for me to realize I was wrong for him to be my second choice. He was brilliant. I won't bore you with all the details, but after four months, he had completed the first draft of the audiobook. We had a couple of conferences and discussed some things that needed attention, and then a month later, I had the final product! I couldn't be more pleased with the production.
Have you listened to it yet?
