Seek Out Feedback That Matters

A frustration often voiced by young professionals is the lack of meaningful feedback provided on their skills, growth opportunities, and potential next career steps. People are busy managing their own lives and careers, and often don’t have a lot of time to help other people manage theirs. And, not many people are well-trained in how to deliver effective, helpful feedback. What does this mean for you? You have to do the work to seek out the feedback and the guidance that you need.

Depending on your company culture and the manager (or colleagues) with whom you work, you may not receive regular feedback outside of annual performance reviews. Regardless of your situation, it is an excellent practice to be proactive about asking for feedback from others. And, as an added benefit, the more that you ask for feedback the easier that feedback becomes to hear. Check out this month's Expert Advice section features on our website for helpful tips on seeking out feedback, giving effective feedback, and the importance of developing intentional reflective practices.
