The Board of Directors of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at Cornell University is pleased to announce that the archive has expanded its acquisitions policy to include recently developed survey methods, including online non-probability samples. The addition of a Recently Developed Methods collection will result in a major expansion to the world's largest public opinion database.

New Data Spotlight
A large number of Monmouth University Polling Institute polls are now live in the archive, and we are adding more every day! We have processed almost 1400 questions in iPoll, and 40 studies with full data sets available in ASCII, SPSS, Stata, and CSV. Some of the studies have scanned reports, press releases and other materials. Here’s a link to the collection of Monmouth questions in Roper iPoll.

We recently received 825 datasets from the University of Hong Kong’s Public Opinion Programme. This collection represents the views of over 698,000 respondents from over 583 questions, with many repeated trend items from 2007-2018. These datasets will be made available over the coming months.

Live in the Archive: Post-War German Data Sets

Studies of post-World War II public opinion in Germany are exceedingly rare. However, a selection of Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach surveys from this time, recently converted from column binary format by the Roper Center, are now available. These fascinating surveys measured the opinions of national adults in Germany between February 1950 and August 1952.

In the News

Roper Center and Digital Divide Data (DDD) believe that opportunity should have no boundaries, so we've partnered to help young data professionals in Cambodia, Laos, and Kenya to empower themselves through education and employment. Please learn more about this organization online.

Column Binary
In the early days of public opinion research, field interviewers carried stacks of paper questionnaires to mark respondents’ answers. Those completed forms were then transferred manually to paper punch cards.

Roper Center for Public Opinion Research processes a large volume of these column binary data sets annually. If you want to learn more about the unique curation process behind bringing these paper treasures into modern data formats, dig into “Data Archaeology – Uncovering the Past Through Column Binary Conversion.”
