THEY DAZZLED GERMANY TOGETHER AND NOW THEY GRADUATE TOGETHER
It was a proud moment for the talented Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Drama and Production Studies students, who were part of the cast that performed at the Folkwang Shakespeare Festival 2018 in Essen, Germany. This group of students graduated together this afternoon (Thursday, 09 May 2019) at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.
MATHOMANE ACHIEVES HER BTECH THROUGH HER FAMILY’S LOVE AND SUPPORT
“I always knew I wanted to do Journalism and I knew this is what I wanted to do,” said Nondumiso Mathomane.
Originally from Richards Bay, Mathomane came to Durban to pursue her Journalism Diploma in 2005, she graduated in 2007, and 12 years later she obtains her BTech in Journalism.

ENCA’s KwaZulu – Natal based journalist Dasen Thathiah, says the journalism calling was far too strong for him to ignore, despite him initially enrolling for an Information Technology (IT) programme after matric.
Thathiah shared his fascinating journey following his conferment with a BTech in Journalism from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), today, (Thursday,09 May 2019) at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.
Last year, (2018), Silindile Maluleka faced the biggest challenge in her life which nearly broke her. She lost her mom after a short illness whilst studying for her BTech in Journalism. Despite losing her greatest inspiration, she forged on and completed her Journalism degree.
Today (Thursday, 10 May 2019), the hard working Maluleka graduated with her Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Journalism, at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Durban University of Technology (DUT,) Steve Biko Campus.
With the help, guidance and support of his supervisors, Professor Suren Singh, Executive Dean in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Professor Kugen Permaul, Biotechnology Research Supervisor and from Professor Zheng – Xiang Wang, Mr Meng Zhang has achieved his dream of graduating with a PhD in Biotechnology, at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.
PROF MTHEMBU APPOINTED TO THE BOARD OF UMGENI WATER
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu said his appointment to serve as the Board Member of Umgeni Water is a great opportunity for deepening DUT’s partnerships with government, its agencies and enterprises.
Prof Mthembu was appointed to the board of the second-largest water board in the country (Umgeni Water), alongside 11 other new members of the board. The new board will serve a term of four years.
