Give the Gift of Sight

Dear Friend,

If you're like most people, you might think of cataracts as an affliction experienced only by older populations. However, as the leading cause of blindness, cataracts affect one in every 250 children.*

While cataracts can be treated, in many countries like Honduras, barriers prevent patients from accessing the surgery required.** To add insult to injury, if not done early enough, cataracts can harden and become difficult to remove.

This is why our eye care team and ophthalmological partners in Honduras are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care through cataract surgery and post-surgical care to the Hondurans who need it most.

José's Story

The Brigade's eye care team met José during a screening for a new pair of eyeglasses when they discovered that cataracts had taken much of his vision at a young age. Within 24 hours, we were able to schedule him for surgery, and vision in his left eye was restored.

His mom expressed her desire to teach him everything she could, including colors.

The nurse asked, "Que es eso? (What is this)?"

José answered, "Car!"

Then the nurse asked, "Que color? (What color is it?)"

José answered, "Rojo con blanco! (Red and white)"

Help someone like José see clearly for life.

Thanks to support from people like you, the Brigade's surgical team was able to follow up with José to remove cataracts in his right eye, restoring his vision almost completely. Better yet, his restored vision will have a lasting impact in other areas of his life such as education and ability to find work.

Every year, we meet children and adults who cannot see.

Your gift of $250 restores vision for one person who otherwise would be legally blind

Can you make it happen?

Sincerely,

Give Today

This spring, we want to raise $50,000 so that we can continue to Help Hondurans from Head to Toe. Can you help us reach our goal by May 31?

Stay tuned for next week's story about rehabilitation and how your gift can restore mobility for someone in Honduras who would otherwise be housebound.
