They say that stretching is
good for you!

Well, if that’s the case, then I’ve positively limber of late with all of the canvases that I’ve been stretching!

Read about this, as well as a new course, and where you can go to see my art if you can’t make it to one of my art shows.

Upcoming Shows...

Speaking of art shows, the next few months will be a busy one for me. At present, I’ve got over a dozen shows booked, but am always open to finding more. Most of them are local, and the most distant one is the "Atzscape by the Bay" show in Sarnia that takes place concurrently with the Tall Ships Festival.

Here's my current list. Hope to see you at some of these events over the next few months. As always, suggestions for new shows and festivals are most welcome.

In fact, things have already been so busy that I was double-booked on the weekend of the Peterborough Garden Show, so my daughter and her beau stepped in to work my booth for me. It’s truly a family affair!
This isn't the first time that my daughter Violet has helped me out at shows. If history repeats itself this year, I'm going to have people attending future shows asking me, "Where's your lovely daughter?"

Take a Watercolour Course!

The spring 2019 version of my Illustrative Watercolours course at the Art School of Peterborough begins next Tuesday May 14th, and there’s still plenty of room.

NEW!
Wrapped Canvases...

New this year, I’m offering select prints on wrapped canvases that can be hung on your wall as is or put in a floating frame.
I’ve only had them available for about a month, and demand is already high, especially for larger sizes.

I’ve updated my merchant site (see the link directly below) with the current selection, and I’ll have them available on the art show circuit this summer as well.

"Love Rocks" has a new home

My original painting “Love Rocks” sold recently and the new owners requested a new mat and frame for it. They wanted a brighter mat and a barnwood frame.

Here’s what we decided on. The painting is mounted behind a quadruple-mat and inside a composite 16 by 20 inch barnwood frame.

Shop and Eat Locally!

Come for the art, stay for the food.

You may recall a few newsletters back when I wrote about how I’d taken over the walls of Hendows Fine Food (309 Townsend Street, Peterborough) with my art. Well, when my extended family was in town on Easter weekend, all two dozen of us went out for breakfast at Hendows. I suggested the restaurant so that I could show them my art (since these pieces weren’t obviously hanging in my own house).

Where they certainly enjoyed the art, they were especially taken with Warren Hennessey’s excellent food, and decided collectively to go back for a breakfast the next day. If that isn’t a sincere recommendation, then I don’t know what is.
Mom and Pop restaurants in Peterborough had noticed a decline in business since the Casino buffet arrived on the scene, so make sure to stop by and give Warren some business and support a local restauranteur while you’re at it!

About Dwayne...

Watercolour artist Dwayne James lives near Lakefield, Ontario where he paints as often as he can, that is when he’s not spending time with his daughter, twin boys, and his very forgiving wife.

Dwayne studied archaeology in University, and as a result learned how to write creatively. “The most important skill I learned in University,” he says, “was the ability to pretentiously write about myself in the third person.”

With no formal art training, Dwayne has always preferred the self-guided, experimental approach. In fact, he taught himself how to illustrate archaeological artifacts while completing his Master’s degree at Trent University. Said his thesis supervisor at the time: “There might not be much in the way of coherent theoretical content in Dwayne’s thesis, but damn, it looks pretty!”

After working for close to a decade as a technical communicator, Dwayne chose to look at being downsized in January 2009 as an opportunity to become a stay@home Dad for his newborn twins and pursue his painting and creative writing. It is a decision that continues to make him giggle with wild abandon to this very day.

A self-taught painter, Dwayne’s  highly-detailed watercolour paintings have been described as “unconventional” yet “absolutely authentic.”

Fascinated by both texture and dimension, Dwayne channels nature to create personalised images that are not easily captured with conventional photography.

Dwayne seizes a moment in his paintings that shifts every time you view them. You may have seen watercolours before but, chances are, you have never seen watercolours like Dwayne’s.
