  • The Institute for Nonprofit News is partnering with the Missouri School of Journalism to create four graduate internships with support from the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of a new diversity initiative this summer called the Knight Nonprofit News Internship Program. Run for the INN Board


INN has three great opportunities for leaders of nonprofit news organizations who want to build the future of its network and this emerging news media space. NewsMatch Annual Learning Report


NewsMatch has released its annual learning report, which documents how the NewsMatch campaign meets three interlocking goals: raising awareness about the role of journalism in society, expanding community support and funding for news, and strengthening newsrooms' long-term fundraising capacity.

The report shows how the 2018 campaign raised more than $7.6 million in unrestricted funding for INN members and what NewsMatch is learning about building community support for journalism. NewsMatch 2019 will kick off at INN Days 2019 with a day of sharing, learning and training.

Facebook Journalism Project Community Network - Open Call for Grant Applications


The Facebook Journalism Project Community Network is a grant program designed to support individuals and news organizations that are building community through local news. The application window will be open from May 13, 2019 through May 27, 2019. Grant recipients may receive a grant award ranging from $5,000-$25,000, along with opportunities to connect with industry experts to support their projects. INN Days Registration Now Open to Non-Members


INN Days, the largest nonprofit news conference of the year, is now open to non-members for $179. INN members can register for INN Days 2019 conference for $149. This event is open to anyone interested in advancing the field of nonprofit news.

The full agenda is now available and includes two days of sessions. This is the first time the event will be held at its own hotel. The conference will be held at The Four Seasons Houston on June 12 and 13, two blocks from the IRE hotel, at a special room rate of $175 per night. The INN room block for June 11 is sold out at $175 per night and the current rate is now $379 per night. Limited rooms for June 12 and June 13 at the special rate are left, so book soon as they are likely to sell out. Book your hotel room now by visiting the "hotel" tab on the INN Days page.

Investigative Network was credited in the Sandra Bland case last week when video from Bland's cellphone was released publicly for the first time on Dallas television station WFAA in partnership with Investigative Network. Members of Bland’s family called on Texas officials to re-examine the case after journalists showed them the video, according to the WFAA report. Learn more in this New York Times article. According to Investigative Network, more than 1,860 television stations and other media outlets picked up the story and the organization has had 1.3 million views on its YouTube channel. 

The War Horse has partnered with Wounded Warrior Project and Boulder Crest Retreat to welcome 12 medics and Corpsmen for The War Horse’s Writing Seminar for Combat Medics and Corpsmen at Boulder Crest Retreat, a six-day writing retreat that brings together leading military reporters, veteran advocates, educators and mental health leaders. The all-expenses-paid writing retreat is sponsored by Wounded Warrior Project and will take place Oct. 18-23, 2019 in Bluemont, Virginia. Apply here.

  • Congratulations to City Bureau, the recipient of 2019’s Rising Star Award from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
  • Congratulations as well to New Mexico In Depth, which collected six awards – two first-place and four second-place – in a regional journalism contest that pit it against the largest newspapers, radio and TV stations in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
