This is an urgent alert from the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW

Dangerous conditions Saturday
A cold front that is approaching from the state's west will bring a vigorous west to northwesterly change to coastal areas on Friday, then shifting more southerly on Saturday as a low develops over the Tasman Sea. The low is expected to move rapidly away to the east on Sunday, with winds easing as a strong high drifts across from the west.

On Saturday on the Macquarie, Hunter, Sydney, Illawarra and Batemans coasts, large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Seas will be 4 or 5 metres, plus swell of 2.5 to 4 metres. Conditions on Sunday are expected to settle down.

Be careful to check forecasts and local conditions before you head out. Check local forecasts on the BOM website at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml

Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. If the rock platform is wet ask yourself 'why is it wet?' then watch the ocean for waves and swells for at least 20 minutes. Always fish with a friend, wear proper rockfishing footwear, light warm high-visibilty clothing, and wear a life jacket in case you get washed in.

Stay safe, always watch the local conditions before fishing and never turn your back on the ocean.
