Upcoming Fall 2019 Research Workshops

The Office for Undergraduate Research will offer several research workshops this fall. These include the following:

Getting Involved In Research
Late September
In this workshop, you will learn how to enter the research community at UNC, including resources for identifying research opportunities, identifying faculty mentors and how the Office for Undergraduate Research can support your research efforts. The workshop will include a student panel where students will talk about how they got involved in research, as well as a faculty panel to discuss what faculty look for in students from the perspective of a mentor.

Deconstructing Abstracts
Late September
In this interactive workshop, you will deconstruct an abstract from your field in order to identify the components of a well-written scholarly abstract. You will then write your own abstract based on your research, so come prepared to start writing your personal research abstract. Please bring your laptop.

Networking
Monday October 7, 2019. 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Location: Hanes 239
Learn to talk to potential research mentors and/or broaden your research network with the help of this workshop. You will learn the basics of networking including tips on how to talk to new people, sharing information about yourself, and asking questions to get the info you want while leaving a stellar first impression. Co-sponsored with the career center.
