The Big Weekend - A Bird Walk Tomorrow, then Cleaning Up The Murrays

Join Graham Checkley, A Great Supporter and Bird Expert and Then Help Those Wonderful People at The Murrays Clean Up

This weekend there’s both fun and great work. Enjoy our Bird Walk and meet and hear the Park’s Feathered Friends, the. Help clean up The Murrays.

Our regular Bird Walk starts at one end of the park on Saturday, and then at the other end we’re asking Friends and supporters to help local residents clean up The Murrays. Technically, the Murrays isn’t actually in the park, but we don’t pay much attention to that. The woodland there is one of the largest areas of woodland in south Edinburgh, and it’s a great place for people and wildlife.

The local residents there care passionately about the area, and this will be the seventh (and last) public clean up of ‘The Big Spring Clean’. We’ve had more than a hundred volunteers out across the Liberton and Gilmerton area, and there has been a mountain of rubbish shifted. It’s great work and so worthwhile.

Join in for one or other of these great activities, or feel free to join both. Studies show that spending even twenty minutes in a park makes you happier, so this weekend, cheer yourself up and do some good at the same time.

We have the last clean up with the Guides shortly. This is not a public event, but we will report on that and the clean up in the next full Newsletter. Thanks to everyone who has helped so far. We’ve already been approached by someone who wants to organised another clean up themselves, and we’ll give them all the help we can. Plans for next year will start soon as well. Aren’t people wonderful, so many people have worked so hard. We’ll be thanking them all in the next Newsletter too.

Last weekend Liberton and District's clean up in Gracemount did amazingly well - see pics. They cleared a small mountain of rubbish fromaround Gracemount House and the walled Garden. That included three supermarket cages which had been pushed into the garden and set on fire. Those were heavy things for volunteers to shift. Special thanks go to Bill Krol and Amy Richards for all their hard work. Another weekend and more great work done.
