Village Awarded "Safe Route to School" Grant from New York State

On April 24th, Governor Cuomo announced $6.5 million in funding to support transportation enhancements in the Southern Tier, including $535,000 to the Village of Cayuga heights for the walking Safe pedestrian accessibility enhancement program.  The project will create new handicap accessible sidewalks along Kline and Wyckoff Roads, along with concrete curbing, high visibility crosswalks, signage, improved road shoulders, reduced lane widths and other safety provisions.  The Village has also partnered with the Lake View Cemetery to provide pathway improvements and pedestrian scale lighting to create a safe walking path connecting the Village to Ithaca High School and Boynton Middle school.  Please find all the details here.  For the concept sketch, please click here.

May Water Bills

Water bills have been sent and are due by Monday, May 20th.  Water payments (with account number written on the memo line) may be mailed to 836 Marcham Hall or dropped in the secure box located outside the main entrance.  Online payments may also be made with a minimal service charge.  Please visit our water and sewer page to pay online.  You may also view frequently asked questions here.  For more information on Village water rates, please visit the Bolton Point website here.

Walk and Talk in the Village-Save the Date!

A Walk & Talk in the White Park section of the Village sponsored by Historic Ithaca will be offered by Bea Szekely, Cayuga Heights Historian, on Saturday morning, June 22d from 11:00 to noon. Come and explore the history of Cayuga Heights as a planned garden suburb in the early 20th century. We'll gather at the intersection of White Park Road and the Parkway and then stroll along a few of the roads in the area where interesting houses have stories to tell about their architecture and the people who lived in them a century ago.  To view the entire series of Walk & Talks Historic Ithaca will offer this summer, including the By-Way in nearby Forest Home, please click here.

Spring Garden Fair and Plant Sale

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Spring Garden Fair and Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Ithaca High School.  The event is free and open to the public.  Perennials, specialty plants, annuals, shrubs and trees will be for sale.  Bring your own containers for transporting plants.  For more information, please visit the CCE website here.

Movie Nights in the Village

Movie Nights at the Cayuga Heights Fire Station will start July 10th and will be held every Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM with the last movie being August 7th.  Admission is FREE and no donations are expected as this is a way for the Fire Department to open itself to the community.  All movies will be held indoors this year.  You may bring your own food and beverages and the Luna food truck will also be on site.  Please bring your own chairs and blankets. Come early and see the fire trucks and meet the firefighters.  Everyone is welcome!  The movie lineup will be:
July 10- Ice Age
July 17- The Last Jedi
July 24- Shrek
July 31- The Sandlot
August 7-Ratatouille

Opportunities with The Learning Web

The Learning Web has two programs available to local youth.  The  Summer Volunteer Community Service Program is now taking applications! The program is open to students who reside in the Town of Ithaca, the Village of Lansing, the Village of Cayuga Heights and the Town of Caroline. The 6-week program will run from June 26th through August 1st, from 9 am through 12:30 pm, with an option of participating in the Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday session. The home base for the program will be St. Catherine’s of Siena Church, and from there the groups will travel to different service sites throughout Tompkins County. In the past, they have visited sites such as Meadowgate Horse Rescue, the Cayuga Nature Center, and the Ithaca Children’s Garden! The program is completely free, and snacks and transportation are provided. If interested, applications can be found at www.learning-web.org under “Forms and Publications,” or can be requested via email at bevi@learning-web.org.  An Apprentice program is also available and more details may be found here.

Trash Tag Rate Increase

For the first time in 25 years, the cost of trash tags will be increasing on June 1.  The new rate will be $1.50/tag or $18/sheet of 12 tags.  Trash tags are available at Wegman's and the Triphammer Tops, however making your purchase at the Village Clerk's office at Marcham Hall keeps more money within the Village to be used for you and your community.  The Clerk's office can accepts cash, checks or credit card payments (with a service fee) and is open Monday-Friday 9 AM to 4:30 PM.  Note: Tags which have been previously purchased may still be used.
