Hello Everyone…

I’ve been Googling a few things!...Did you know that:

  • Male Emperor Penguins can survive temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celcius and winds up to 160 kmph
  • The Bactrian Camels endure 50 degree Celsius summers and minus 40 degree Celsius winters
  • 5 million Snow Geese fly more than 5,000 km each year to reach the Arctic tundra
  • The Pygmy Seahorse is only 2cm long
  • Peregrines are the fastest creatures in the world. They are believed to achieve speeds approaching 200km/h (124mph) when plunging from the sky after prey.
  • Ostriches do not need to drink – they can make their own water internally and get the rest from vegetation.
  • Our galaxy has over 250 billion stars and our galaxy is only one of millions
  • There are more stars in the sky then there are grains of sand on earth
  • Every hour one billion cells in the body must be replaced
  • Your thigh bone is stronger than concrete.
  • The average human has approximately 100,000 hairs on their head.

If Google is correct I think that's absolutely mindboggling. What a fantastic blue planet we live on. In His extravagant kindness, God has made this beautiful, bountiful earth.

Whenever I look across the field at the back of my house and see the pheasants, rabbits and hares; whenever we dig a garden; whenever we plant a tree; whenever we water the flowers; that’s all God’s work. This isn’t, of course, the only thing God calls us to do, but it’s one of the things, and according to the Bible, it’s the first thing God gave us humans to do: take good care of my creation. He has placed us here to enjoy it and take care of it. The better we do that, the better we honour the maker of it all.

Our family service this month is all about being ‘the caretakers of God's creation’. Why not come along to say thanks for our blue planet, and join in our Toilet Twinning Appeal to clean up dirty water and poor sanitation in third world countries.

God Bless
Sue Deacon (Local Minister)

Family Service
As it's World Environment Day on the 5th June, and as we are currently running our Toilet Twinning Campaign, I thought we could focus our family service theme on how we look after God's creation. As usual it's going to be fun, friendly and free. See you there hopefully. Sue

Childrens Family Friendly Communion

The service is especially geared to primary school children. It's relaxed and keeps children active and engaged throughout. It lasts about 40 minutes. This month we are looking at the time when Jesus cooked breakfast for His disciples by the sea of Galilee (sometimes called Lake Tiberius). It was one of the last times that Jesus appeared to His disciples before He ascended into heaven. This special time in the Christian calendar is called Pentecost, and this year falls on June 9th.  Sue
Our Big Church Survey
IN A RECENT SURVEY ACROSS WESTERN EUROPE MOST ADULTS SURVEYED CONSIDER THEMSELVES AS CHRISTIANS BUT SELDOM GO TO CHURCH.

Scampton Church is one of 200 churches throughout the UK taking part in a pilot study of the Church of Englands  'Big Church Survey' due to be launched next year. The survey intends to get a much needed snapshot of what the Church looks like today.
There is a quick survey for children and the adults sheet takes about 5 minutes to complete.

More food required for our 'BATBOX!

Lincoln community larder logoWe invite you to grab a tin from your kitchen cupboard, and then place it into the ('BAT BOX') at the back of church. We call it the Bring a Tin ('BAT') initiative. The church is nearly always unlocked.
We send the food to The Lincoln Community Larder whose aim is to provide basic food for people in crisis. They do this by issuing Larder Vouchers to a variety of agencies in the area who then refer people to them who are in need of assistance in the form of food. The larder provide 3 days worth of food for each person included on the voucher.
Lincoln Larder give advice about the best tins required by them here.

It's great to have Pollyplatt Community Primary School now contributing to our Church newsletter
It's great to have Pollyplatt Community Primary School now contributing to our Church community newsletter
Summer and sunshine have hit Pollyplatt Primary School this term and we have enjoyed six weeks of fun filled learning (and a few tests). We are incredibly proud of what the children have achieved this term, both in and out of school. We have seen wins for our football team, children giving 110% in their national tests and a whole range of children achieving amazing things outside of school.

We have just finished a week looking at the environment and what we can do to save it: creating fantastic artwork using recycled materials; litter picking our local community and using our English skills to write letters to people who can make bigger changes. We also spent a lot of time gardening and improving our school environment – we look forward to seeing this flourish over the next six weeks!

Finally as we move into the final term, we have started to look at pilgrimages made by different religions and why they are so important. This reminds of us of the important journeys that we make in our own life and some our children will experience some important journeys in the next six weeks. Our Year 6 children get ready to move onto secondary school and many children are getting ready to start school for the very first time. We look forward to hearing about old memories and starting new memories in the coming weeks.

At the front of our school is a signpost showing all the Christian values our school holds dear. If you are walking past, have a look. Our hope is that the pupils leaving us at the end of this term will live these values in their onward journey and use them to help answer the challenges that are ahead of them. These might be more useful than the assessments the children have been doing in recent weeks, for which pupils have worked really hard.

We are looking forward to next half term to trips to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, our partnership sports festival, swimming gala and the LIncolnshire Show. If you are visiting the Show be sure to visit our Celebration Garden for which children have been growing plants from seed.

Our annual school production is on the horizon too, for which we will be working hard. It will no doubt be a busy few weeks but a great time for the school too. We hope that memories will be made and importantly those values  mentioned earlier are secured in pupil's lives.

Open Churches Weekend Report
A great big thank you to all those hard working people who helped out at our Open Churches weekend. We raised just over £200, but more importantly we shared our vision of creating a 'Community Church and RAF Heritage Centre' here at Scampton. The reaction was really encouraging with comments like 'What a change from last year - the chairs make it so light and welcoming' and 'Wow this church looks alive!'
Thanks again everyone - Sue

This month it's: Barbara & Wendy
If you see them around - give them a big thank you!

A big thank you to Simon and Linda who spend ages getting the building up to scratch ready for the open churches festival an to Barbara for the wonderful flower arrangements.
There are now quite a few people who do not attend Church who are helping out to make our village church building a community asset. BRILLIANT.

Regular cleaning of an old building is essential, and help is always wanted to keep on top of things. If you would like to help out with cleaning our church please contact Sue
