This is the second of several emails reminding us all of what our learning and that of managers in this past year has encompassed.

LMSI 1:

These tools were highlighted in the ID&LA Blog by Felicity Walsh.

What have staff used since that course? What haven't you seen used in practice? Have questions or ideas? Talk to any manager!

Management in Context:
  • The ladder of inference – A tool to help individuals understand their own assumptions and help unpack misunderstandings and miscommunication.
  • The Johari Window - A tool to help build understanding and enhance communication between individuals in a group
Power Dynamics and Influencing Skills:
  • The five bases of power –  Every individual has some sort of power. Different types of power affect everyone's ability and success in their role whether they are a manager or not.
  • Nine influencing strategies – A variety of ways to use the power that you do have; everyone has a few of these
Participatory Decision Making
  • The Gradient of Agreement – A tool to help the decision maker(s) understand what level of discomfort or dissent the group can tolerate while still implementing the decision under consideration.

Equity Toolkit Access:

For access to the Equity Toolkit for new staff, please contact Sarah Segura at Sarah@DeEttaJones.com

We are guaranteed access to the full Equity Toolkit through June 30, 2019. The Design Team is in contact with DJA and will update if this date is extended.

Don't forget!

The MLI LibGuide has links to resources, LSMI books and other useful information so please take a look! As always, let the Design Team know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions (managers-forum-planners@mit.edu).

Best,
