THE SAVE MOVEMENT AROUND THE WORLD

Toronto Pig Save's News Update
Dear friends,

Don’t turn away. Join us! Bear witness at our weekly vigils.
(Please scroll down for vigil schedule.)

Save continues to grow all over the world! We now have 664 Animal Save groups in 71 countries listed on our website. We also have 112 Climate Save groups in 39 countries and 29 Health Save groups in 19 countries.
At Brampton Chicken Save's vigil on May 6, they filmed these hens huddling between transport cages as the truck arrived. "They had to fight for their lives and watch their sisters fall off the back of the truck as it sped down the highway for 8+ hours. How were these girls outside of the crates on an open truck in transit?"

CP24 News: The Supreme Court of Canada to hear food recall class action by Mr. Sub franchisees against Maple Leaf "Foods"
"The Supreme Court of Canada will hear a case on whether a distributor is responsible for a franchisee's losses during a food recall. The top court has granted an application for leave to appeal by a class-action lawsuit representing Mr. Submarine Inc. franchisees against Maple Leaf Foods Inc. and Maple Leaf Consumer Foods Inc."
Wikipedia has more info in this article that quotes the Government of Canada's "Report of the Independent Investigator into the 2008 Listeriosis outbreak": "The 2008 Canadian listeriosis outbreak was a widespread outbreak of listeriosis in Canada linked to cold cuts from a Maple Leaf Foods plant in Toronto, Ontario. There were 57 total confirmed cases, resulting in 22 deaths.
Please join us as we fight Maple Leaf's plans to expand with a new monster slaughter plant in London. Join Toronto Chicken SaveLondon Chicken Save and Stop Maple Leaf Violence.

Help Us Bring BeFairBeVegan to Toronto! Almost 100 donations so far. Thanks for all the kind support!!! We are at $11,606 (23%). Please donate and share the BeFairBeVEgan Toronto campaign.
We have very exciting news! With your help, we can bring BeFairBeVegan to Toronto! BFBV is a high-profile advertising campaign that presents to the consuming public the end of all animal use as the prerequisite for a fair and just society. Unlike many animal advocacy campaigns, BFBV’s central message is that veganism is a matter of fundamental justice, not a matter of convenience or personal choice.
Toronto is now poised to become the
eighth city to host BeFairBeVegan’s provocative billboards, challenging both residents and summer visitors to consider the consequences of using products that involve animal exploitation. Please check out these artists impressions below of how the campaign will look. With 2019 being hailed as “the year of the vegan,” this is the perfect time to bring BeFairBeVegan’s powerful vegan message to Canada’s most populous city.

Winnipeg Chicken Save report from their vigil on May 4 outside the Dunn-Rite Foods slaughter plant: "Dunn-Rite 'Food' is responsible for the murder of over 300,000 baby chickens each week. We have a moral responsibility to stand against violence and to speak out for animals."

VIGIL SCHEDULE
Weekly vigils and outreach with Toronto-area Saves
Toronto Pig Save has a firm commitment to hold at least three vigils or other vegan outreach events per week. We currently hold a Pig Save vigil in Burlington together with Cow Save, Fish Save and Chicken Save vigils in Toronto, as well as Fur Animal Save events in the colder months. We encourage everyone to attend a vigil.
The more people who attend, the harder it is for society to ignore our protests of the abhorrent exploitation and cruelty to animals. Attending vigils is a daunting, traumatic, but empowering experience that helps build community and a support network of like-minded activists. Please join us. Scroll down for vigil schedule.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: "When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."

Health Save Movement

Health Save Movement aims to show how veganism can prevent and reverse diseases related to animal products consumption, enhance food justice, and decrease spending on the health crisis.
Health Save Movement's Vegan Ramadan
Peace 🙏
Ramadan is a good time for moving towards a more conscious and positive lifestyle - to quit smoking cigarettes and other habits that affect us and our surroundings with negative effects, for example. There have been cases of
people who end up in the hospital because of the habits of eating  while breaking the fast (large meals containing high fat that comes from the animal or their bodily secretions)
Is there a healthier way to fast?
More at the
event page.

Watch as Buenos Aires Health Save take to the streets to bring a message of peace and goodwill and give away clothing and good food. They do these walks as a regular program of outreach.

The Independent: MPs make history by passing Commons motion to declare ‘environment and climate change emergency’
Motion makes the UK parliament the first in the world to declare an “environment and climate emergency.” "The symbolic move – recognising the urgency needed to combat the climate crisis – follows a wave of protests launched by the Extinction Rebellion strikers in recent weeks."
Soon after, this happened: Ireland becomes second country in the world after UK to declare 'climate emergency'
"Things will deteriorate very rapidly unless we move very swiftly and the window of opportunity to do that is fast closing," warns climate action minister Richard Bruton.

We can hope that specific measures beyond a symbolic vote will be taken to address the climate crisis.

Como Climate Save (Italy) held a protest In Defense of the Planet on May 9 in the public square. "If we know that eating animal products has an impact on the climate, the environment and implies the suffering of animals, the question is: why do we do it?"

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.

"When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy

In 8 years, The Save Movement has grown to over 660 Save groups in 71 countries around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns (iVegan.ca) and vegan outreach events.

Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
