Meet the Global Service Scholars 2019 Cohort!


As we approach the third year of our program, Global Service Scholars is proud to announce the 2019 cohort! This cohort derives from various disciplines and backgrounds and will be embarking across the world to activate what it means to be a global citizen. They have been undergoing weekly seminar sessions to prepare for their month-long service trip this August. This year, the scholars will be going to sites in Paraguay, Nepal, and South Africa to explore themes of compassion, altruism and service.

Small Change, Better World
Applications due May 25
SCBW provides seed grants for one-time, limited scope projects that address a specific need. For 2018-2019, we particularly encourage proposals that address affordable housing and women & girls’ empowerment. Funded projects must require less than $3,000 and be achievable within a short period of time, such as a quarter or semester.

Call for Proposals: Graduate Research
Deadline May 24
UCSB Blum Center will support short-term research up to $3,000 that focuses on themes of socio-economic inequality in relation to democratic practices, policies, institutions, and norms. All graduate students from the UC system are encouraged to apply by May 24th at 5PM PST.

The Blum Center aims to enable a new generation of students and researchers to ask and address critical questions about development that are key prerequisites to devising effective and innovative approaches to alleviating contemporary poverty both locally and abroad. The Center was launched at UC Irvine as part of a larger consortium of Blum Centers across the University of California campuses.
