Engage event: Boundaries

Join us for the first in a series of three free events, asking residents what’s important about the city we live in.

This month, we’ll be discussing boundaries. Physical or invisible – why are they important to us? Who decides what falls inside our World Heritage Site, and are the things beyond it less important?

With two short interjections—including one from Rob Burns, former Historic England inspector, and Liverpool City Council planning officer—followed by discussion and conversation, this event promises to be quite unlike anything we’ve hosted before. Book your places now and be part of it.

A waterfall in the city centre: The story of Richard Huws’ “Bucket Fountain”

5:30pm Wednesday 15th May, RIBA North, Mann Island.

With thousands of supporters seriously concerned about plans to remove the magnificent ‘Bucket Fountain’ from its current location, this talk, hosted by Merseyside Civic Society, is your chance to find out about the man who designed the fountain and the sculpture’s important connection to its location on the waterfront.

Royal Daffodil ferry returns to the waterfront

Mersey Ferries and the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor have announced that the famous and much loved ferry, which gave over 50 years of service from 1962, is to be refurbished and re-homed in the Canning Dock area as a heritage venue and leisure attraction.

Residents mount campaign to preserve Heaps Rice Mill

Listed as a Grade II historic monument in 2014, to save it from demolition, the famous rice mill, which once ground the rice for Kellogg’s Rice Crispies, has now lain derelict for almost 15 years.

There are fears that, if ignored any longer, the building could suffer irreprable damage, ruining any chances for sympathetic renovation. A group of supporters are currently running a petition, asking the council to inspect the building, to ascertain its condition and its future.
