Good Morning,
How many times have you opened one of my newsletters or seen it in your inbox and thought, “I'll read it later?” Or, how many times have you put off your work until another day when you expected you would feel more motivated or watched your child put off their chores or homework until the last possible minute?
While I won’t hold it against you for having held off on reading this (haha!), it's completely understandable. Almost everyone puts things off until tomorrow, at least sometimes. Adults and children alike travel down the road of procrastination, but while we've always known this as adults, we are starting to see it happen more and more with kids.
Why?
Despite the introduction of social emotional learning (SEL) in many schools, lots of kids continue to struggle with managing their emotions. The pressure to succeed, get straight A’s and get into the right college all while juggling so afterschool activities, projects, tutoring, chores, and more leaves lots of kids feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. They are still trying to figure out their priorities in life and how to manage their time so they can get everything done. And it's no surprise to find them putting their homework and chores off until the last minute.
So, what can you do to get them out of this rut?
In this week’s blog, "Doing it Now: Your Child, Procrastination, and How to Manage It”, I’ll talk about procrastination, what it means for kids (and you), and how to avoid it.
